I'd like our strips tae be a little more scottish aswell, but yellow is a scottish color in the end. The lion flag with yellow and red? Remember? There's not that much irishness in a green, white and yellow flag

    Are you sure in that?
And one more thing Celtic has to many connection whit Ireland to be just a scottish club, no mather where location of the club is.Eg. founders, colours, most of supporters, irish flags on Celtic games, especially on Euro away games, etc
And don't get me wrong i haven't got anything 'gainst Scotland and Scottish people,o contrer i like them, and i hope that i'll visit Scotland this summer, because i'll spent 28 days in UK,but the facts are the facts.

a few years back we had a small celtic cross on the shirts if you are in a n uproar over the use of YELLOW and green then the use oif a religous symbol on ones shirt must havee been far more shocking

As long the majority of our players are scottish, we play in the Scottish premier League and are officially a scottish club, yes I'm sure

i dont think flags on kits are a good idea tbh...your always going to alienate supporters. as for the tricolour being secterian...are you for real? people like you were the ones that took the word 'blackboard' out of the english language. flags represent the people as a whole, not a religion, race or creed

we are a swiss club. why? because i support them.

seriously, I think you are wrong sutton. i wouldnt mind having a tricolour and a saltire on our shirt.

i been only a few days in glasgow yet, plus surfing on a few scotland forums, I must say I have discovered a strong anti-irish element. some strange fellows started asking me wierd questions in glasgow because they fought i was irish.

i just want to say, lets wear our celtic colours with pride.

I kind of agree with sutton on this one. When I first saw the strip I also thought it was a step backwards in the fight against sectarianism. The top itself may not be sectarian but it could certainly be seen as inflammatory. I don't like to see Rangers fans with union jacks even though there is a legitimate reason to have them (Rangers are a British team as Celtic have Irish roots). The issue here is not what is intended by the strip but what it may symbolise.

We were founded by a brother,a religious man, how is that shocking that a religious symbol is on our jersey. Go read a history book.

Symbolise? The people that may have a problem with the yellow on the jersey are the same * that are out marching in the orange order. Why should we care what they think?

i haven't heard so much * in my life.do hearts have any saltire do hibs..no!

you really are taking this sectarian debate way to far.and reading way too much into things.

the celtic colours are green, white yellow or gold can also be acceptable. but this is really political madness gone mad.

why do we have to walk around on egg shells?fannys like you are to busy trying to appease hugh keevins rather than supporting your team.let me guess you like seeing rangers do well in europe as well?

those are the celtic colours and they are in this strip what is the big deal?its not like rangers when the brought out that orange strip and orange is most definately not a rangers colour or the sash one!

I take your point dempsey and also that of the guy who posted after. In an ideal world we would not have to walk around on eggshells. The reality of it is that mature steps have to be taken by both sides, there are good guys on both sides, if the symbolism of the tricolour is inciting anyone on the other side then it should not be embraced by the club.

When Rangers orange strip was released I was disgusted by it. I am not a bigot and do not have the strong Irish connections that many Celtic fans have, I was more outraged by the fact that it was a bad symbol given the context. I can only imagine that a Rangers fan of equal sound mind (not someone who joins the orange walk) would feel exactly the same.

I didnt see the ranger support boycotting the orange jersey, where was their maturity then? I'm not saying we should lower ourselves to them.

Celtic have a very valid reason for green, white and yellow on the jersey, its not a sectarian or bigotted thing. Its apart of the clubs history and its well documented.

Whats their excuse for the orange strip?

I think they said the intention behind it was a reference to the dutch contingent at the club at the time, which is part of Rangers history now (for the time period) and it is also documented. Through Celtic goggles there is no way that reasoning would be accepted. Basically I am just trying to look at this from both angles because that is the only way that progress against the bigots can be made.

I was not suggesting that we boycott the strip. Granted I won't be buying it, but that is because I don't particularly like the top and as it will probably get worn about 2/3 times I don't really see the point.

Bigots will not be removed from the Ibrox terraces until their equivalent are removed from their board.

I wonder if Boston Celtics get the same crap in America for "pandering" to their cities irish links.

Ah, i remember the reason now, the dutch influence. Did they just forget the other connection it would bring. They are dumb, not that dumb.

No, but they are based in Wales, have majority Welsh players AND play in the Welsh FAW cup..

Believe it or not, if Swans, Cardiff or Wrexscum ever made top 4 of the premiership, they would be forbidden from entering the Champions League by the FA...
