Give it time though and he could be classed a legend.

I agree with you about buying him, he was 31 when we got him but we still got 3 good years out him and free too!

To buy a 28 year old Varga now would set you back a good £8million. When you see the money * squandered on Boumsong and Cuellar from the huns.

    No he won't.

Stan Varga will never be in the same boat as Henrik Larsson, Billy McNeill, Jinky, Lennox, Murdoch, Auld, Burns, mcgrory etc.

Not a legend but played an important part in a legendary era :50:

True but are those the only legends?

I'd class him in with Hartson, Sutton, Thompson, Petrov, Glavin, Provan, Di Canio, Cadete, Mjallby, Balde, Nicholas, McClair, McAvennie, Stubbs, Elliot, Boyd, McNamara, Callaghan, Macari, Collins, McAdam, McGeady, Deans, P.Wilson, R.McDonald, McCluskey, Nakamura, Boruc and others

I dont think you need to be world-class or have played 500+ games to be called a Legend? Just as long as your a very good player throughout your time here.

Obviously hes not McNeill, MacLeod, McStay, Murdoch, Dalglish, Jinky, Lennox, Auld, McGrain, Connelly, Larsson, Moravcik class but thats the best of the best I think you can still be a legend but not a world-class player or play 500 times.

The only legends I would say from the last ten years would be Larsson, Thompson, Lennon, and Boruc, we've had very good players like Petrov, Nakamura, Vennegoor of Hesselink, and Sutton would come close to being a legend, but I think you're being too liberal with the word "legend".

Aye maybe now that I think a legend should probably be kept for the best player or two of every decade.

But if we had a Hall of Fame then id stick Varga in.

We could have a Hall of Fame and an extra Legends hall of fame, thered only be about 20-25 legends but about 120 in the hall of fame. Then when talking about them they could be classed a a "Hall of Famer" or a "Legend"

There's a difference between playing good at your short time at Celtic and being a club legend.

Cracking big centre half actually, we could be doing with him just now.

Not in the bracket underneath legends though however.

Varga wouldn't even make it into the tier of players below the legends. He wasn't even the best centre-back at Celtic when he played for us ffs.

He was a big honest player who done a job for us but he does not deserve to have the word 'legend' put anywhere near his name.

I'm hearing that Legned is the correct term after all Mr.Dignetee is one.

In all seriousness though the term gets thrown about to much now Varga a good player yes but a million miles of what a Celtic legend is.

it says 18 games & 2 goals on wiki but i'm almost certain he scored more than 2 for us. the story doing the rounds at the time was that he and MON and whoever else sat down to discuss terms of a permanent contract and the wage that either vega or his agent had asked for was so ridiculous that MON told the two of them to bolt and wouldn't even entertain negotiations with them.

it is probably pure pish but that's what i heard.
