If you had taken the time to read my initial posts you will have noticed I used the word aspire. I can aspire to be a millionaire it probably will not happen though.

Unless you have lived in various different areas of Dublin and mixed with a wide variety of people from different walks of life and with different age profiles how can you gauge how the city will vote. Because most of your friends do not want a united Ireland does not mean the whole population of the cities they live in feel the same way.

Right lads, bit of thinking outside the box here, Ireland rejoins the union, keeps its own parliament and legal system, much like Scotland is now, but is under British rule, on condition that there is a 32 county referendum on independence in 20 years, gives everyone plenty of time to know what's coming and does away with the unionist veto, would the people of Ireland accept this.

No. Even if the referendum was fair, which it would not be. My opinion only.

On the contrary mysf and most of my friends do want a united Ireland. If you live in Dublin (or anywhere south of Sligo) from Donegal you'll find it suprising how many conversations you get in which shows the sheer ignorance and apathy towards Ulster and a United Ireland.

Also the lack of a movement towards a united Ireland speaks volumes. Even Sinn Fein shy away from such talk as they know it would hinder instead of help them. In the real reality based Ireland of right now there is not much support for unifying the country, sad as that is.

This year more than any other would have been a fantastic backdrop to start such a campaign, but it never happened. And I cant see that changing anytime soon.

My initial point was on this apathy. I mentioned that most would aspire toward a united I have traveled extensively though out Ireland and have lived in different parts of the country. People do not care about the 6 counties but many of the same people given a choice would like to see a peaceful united Ireland.

Unfortunately while most of the main stream media outlets seem to be against the idea of a united Ireland it will be impossible to change this attitude. These self same media outlets are happily promote the EPL and are complicit in its rise in popularity while doing their best to portray Celtic as a sectarian outfit. They do their best to anglocise the people of Ireland.

Will never happen do to the large amount of southerners who do not want Northern Ireland to unite with the Republic and the amount of unionists who live in Northern Ireland. Would be 35 in favour 65 againist

Maybe but I don't want to endure 20 years of being British. I would be too * old in 20 years time to enjoy it anyway. Anyway I believe the croppy should not lie down under any circumstances.

Bit selfish that mate, it's something people in the North put up with and guarantees a United Ireland, think of the children.

I think the only way a United Ireland happens if population growth continues and say 20-30 years it's becomes 60% Catholic/Republican then if those people want a vote and will likely win in with those numbers. The Loyalists don't give a * about the other side so why should Republicans?! I don't get people who say "well, we have to promote it to the Unionists, and hope they will agree" that's bullshit! They will never agree, so * them if they have a vote and they lose then they have to deal with it like Republicans have to deal with their * on a daily basis. If they can out populate them and get the 1st and 2nd generation immigrants who will have a big say in future to vote republican then that could also help. SNP get a lot of immigrant 2nd generation south asian votes and those populations grow so that will help SNP in the future, the same could be done for Sinn fein. Religion will have * all bearing in the future only with the older folk. I think people will call them self Brits or Irish like they do now, some say the Northern Irish identity is key to peace and both sides should embrace that, but at the end of the day that's just works into Unionists hands. In the South I would be shocked if they turned their back and voted NO in a United Ireland vote but imo Ireland is becoming more like Britain every day and less Irish basically they are losing their culture like most EU countries, but then maybe I'm basing that to much on Dublin and not the rest of Ireland.
