As regards the present scandal re Sinn Fein could we now be seeing a little collusion from between the Irish government and their good friend in the 6 counties to demonise Sinn Fein.

THE prosecution service in Northern Ireland is facing political pressure to publish the findings of a probe into a decision not to prosecute Gerry Adams for withholding information about his paedophile brother Liam.

A review of the handling of the case by the PPS was launched by the Attorney General after it emerged that the Sinn Fein president did not tell police for nine years that his brother had confessed to sexually abusing his daughter Aine.
It is understood that the Attorney General's findings and a number of recommendations were forwarded to the North's Director of Public Prosecutions Barra McGrory at least five months ago.
However, the PPS has so far failed to publish the report's findings, despite requests from Stormont's Justice Committee.

Now seems to be the politically correct time to pursue this matter

I would love a united Ireland but would it be economically in the best interests for the people in the North? For our people I mean.

Surely there would have to be a poll in the Republic first to see if they wanted the North back...

You think? I'm not so sure there's the appetite to take on a horde of head banging Unionists who would be * bent on causing major disorder for generations to come.

I can only go by the chats I've had with my Irish friends and although they all (rightly) condemn the partitioning, many don't want the North back now.

There has been a campaign run against republicanism for the best part of 60 years now especially in dublin but if there was a serious debate it would see a massive swing in support for it I'd say at lest 80% would say yes as for the troubles aspect I don't think it's ever going away weather there's reunionfication or contained partition

This would be my take on it also. If anything it would be on the east coast and around the Dublin area where you would be more likely to find people against it. Personally I think their would be a silent majority even in Dublin who would want to see a united Ireland.

I imagine Ireland would deal with them quite easily though by locking most of them up.

The problem with them before was their was a blind eye turned to them and in other cases help given to them as they were on the same side as those in charge. That wouldnt be the case under the new circumstances.

I'd say it would be a huge majority in dublin and at lest most of are older folks would support it maybe the D4 area (and I'm probably stereotyping right now) would be against it honestly anything under 80% I would be disappointed

You certainly are correct that the Irish governments have turned a blind eye to the crimes of the Catholic Church in Ireland and continue to do so as they must share some of the blame given they funded many of the places where the crimes took place. But it also has to be said a large portion of Irish society was complicit in allowing all this to continue for so long by also turning a blind eye. Given the staggering level of crimes and the depths of depravity involved there is no way that many people in the general public did not know what was going on just as the various governments also knew and turned a blind eye.
For me I think one of the major reasons for such much evil being allowed to continue for so long was that most of the victims came from poor or disadvantaged backgrounds. The type of people the Irish middle classes and the governments and their golden circles have at best never cared about and at worst have shown contempt for.

I am not pretending to know but I think their is a vocal minority who would be against it. These are the loud voices you hear welcoming English royals and inviting the orangemen down to parade. The media would have you believe that these people speak for the majority. Even though I only frequent Dublin for football(the real thing) I always suspected that the real peoples views are not being reflected by these loud mouths.

There are those with that opinion no doubt about it. But I think if there was a real poll in the end a majority would vote in favour of reunification. I don't know about 80% but I do't think it would be a nail biter either in terms of which way it would go.

On the tv it would be 50/50 and will probably be most people from Dublin tbh same with the paper coverage but on the ground I'd say at lest 75% of the people campaigning would be for it

It would be a factor. I'd likely have still voted 'Yes', but the threat of serious and sustained disorder would have figured heavily in my decision making.
