The very best, the cream of the players that have played for Celtic.

If Sutton is a legend then so is pretty much the entire Seville team. All top drawer footballers.

In the recent past (and I rate Lubo as the most talented footballer I have ever seen with my own eyes and Lambert was my hero growing up) Henrik is the only true 'legend'.

H**skelper extraordinaire, but i think he is just below the Larsson's and Jinky's in the history of the club.

    100% agree with that.

i think Larsson is the only legend in recent times... lambert is close, possibly could be one.

Lubo is a hero, rather than a legend, if he had come to us several years earlier, then i'd have no doubt he'd be a legend.

Chris sutton in my eyes, is not a club legend......hero, aye....legend,naw

I think for any player to gain legendary status in must mean they will be talked about by our support in 20,30 or 40 years time. i.e Jinky, Larsson, McNeil etc

Fair point, they may not all be legends individually but as a team and the significance of Seville might put them in the collective legends bracket.:icon_mrgreen:

Legends don't come along often in my lifetime I can only think of 3 or 4 them being Tommy Burns , Henrik Larrson , Neil Lennon and Danny McGrain who was at the end of his career in the late 80's , so to answer your question Chris Sutton is not a Celtic legend.

He was here longer, played more games, and was club captain, in a successful era.

If Lambert is a legend then so is Provan, MacLeod, Collins, Doyle, McNamara etc

You said Varga wasn't a Legend and say Lambert is one :86: either they both are or none are.

I would say a legend is just a good player for us to be honest.

The huns call players like McCoist, Hateley, Derek Johnstone, Davie Cooper, and even players like Ally Dawson, Stuart McCall etc legends :56:so we should include Sutton, Lambert, Lennon, Thompson and the rest of our quality players legends too.

I would seperate the Historical Figures over our existance like Walfrid, Maley, Kelly, Quinn, McMenemey, McGrory, Thomson, Evans, Tully, Stein, the Lions, Dalglish, McGrain, Burns, Aitken, McStay, Lubo and Larsson.

And just other legends that people will always remember as the best they've seen outwith them. Like Provan, MacLeod, McClair, McAvennie, McStay, R.McDonald, McCluskey, P.Wilson, McNamara, McAdam, Glavin, Sutton, Hartson, Lennon, Thompson, Delaney, Crerand, Fallon, Fernie, Macari, Deans, Nakamura, Cadete, Van Hooijdonk, Elliot, Mjallby, Balde, Varga, Valgaeren, Boruc, Lambert, Boyd, Edvaldsson, Petrov, McGeady... etc

heroes, unforgettable players.....not legends....other than a couple who i'd say probably could be in legend brackets.

I think people place too much emphasis on the word Legend though. In football it just gets used to class a good ex-player from a team. Like Rangers Legend Stuart McCall.... Celtic Legend John Hartson.... Man United Legend Lou Macari, Arsenal Legend Lee Dixon etc doesn't necessarily mean they are the bets players of all time thats the sort of usage the word gets.

i place so much emphasis, as players like McNell, Jinky, Henrik, Murdoch, McStay etc....are all special, special players, who played with the club for a long time, wore the hoops with pride, and loved the club.......players like Chris Sutton, Nakamura etc, don't fall into the same category for me...very good players they were though.

    I understand your logic mate.

I would say that the Seville team has gained legendary status (being the only team to get to a European final in many years), but you could not collectively say that all the players individually are 'legends'...I mean Rab Douglas, Ulrik Laursen, Shaun Maloney etc?

I would say that the very best of players for Celtic IMO would be classed as 'Greats' i.e The Lisbon Lions, Larsson, McGrory, McStay etc...

I would regard players like Sutton, Hartson, Lambert, Lennon etc as legends...because the years of service, the memories they have left the fans with, and the results that they themselves have contributed greatly to will NEVER be forgotten. They are therefore unforgettable players - which is something that you definetely must be to achieve legendary status.

so we can agree that "legend" is a subjective term. it's a fairly pointless discussion to say who is and who isn't a legend. there are some that you would have to be mad to disagree about and in our collective lifetimes i hope there will be some more.

we, at the minute, are on the brink of something great. i feel that now is a time to be looking forward to what we can do under Lennon. it's time to bring back what it means to be a celtic supporter.

is that thunder i hear ?
