Is Celtic striker Gary Hooper as good as £35m star Andy Carroll?

Fair point but a just dont see andy carrol ever hitting the same ammount of goals batistuta scored he is argentinas all time top scorer with 56 goals in 78 matches, He was playing and scoring week in week out in the era were serie a was probly the best in the world, a know carrol, s decent and a great young prospect but a can never see him hitting them heights

I don't care if he is regarded by the English as better than Hooper. I don't care about the EPL or anyone else but I think this is the only relevent point.

Gary Hooper is the best striker we have had since Larsson/Sutton/Hartson.

The way things are going, he will improve and if he stays here long enough..he could become a legend

It is'nt Carrroll's fault either that he has that price tag on him ,if anything its a burden for him to perform ,high expectations are the measure of the day from now on.

 

Mate just compare him to Fernando Llorente before comparing him to a legend like Batistuta.

Who would get you more goals out of Hooper and Carroll - Definetly Hooper. There differnt players though.

 

I thought i had been spiked with acid when i seen Liverpool bought Andy Carroll for 35 million ffs i was thinkin 6 million just before that happened..The only thing he has on Hooper is that hes good in the air,seein Carroll bein compared Batistuta on here well pass me whatever drugs you are on please..Hooper for me all the way

c'mon guys, carroll is the better player, hooper is doing it in the spl with a team that creates loads of chances, carroll is doing it in the prem with a mid-bottom half side, hooper maybe the better poacher, but carroll is a better all round striker, hes even scored a few from range, and just cause hooper scored more last year doesnt matter, peter odemwingie has got more goals than rooney, mean hes better?, not a chance!

i like hooper he's a quality wee striker but carroll has more in his locker, not 35m worth but more, theres a reason liverpool bought him, stop underestimating him, however ridiculous the fee was.

i dont often say it cause i sometimes have them on my self, but green-tinted specs are popular in this thread, kenny miller scored more than hooper, he must be much better than carroll then eh?

 

I agree that we should not be biased but what are you basing your opinion on, performance wise Hooper has done better in the Championship than carrol ever did they both had 2 seasons playing in it and Hooper was better, Carroll has only scored against lower-level teams and in FA cup games this season, Hooper had higher scout ratings in both ESPN and the Guardian

 

so carrolls in the epl straight away makes him the better player? no tinted green glasses here demps. i cant be titsd when folk keep doing this kinda comparison to scothish based players.

Peple regarded Henrik Larsson as only good because he played in the SPL before he moved onto Barcelona past his peak and proved them wrong.

And then Man Utd well past his peak and proved them wrong.

Just throwing that in there. EPL is a harder league but there are certain styles of player that are guarenteed to succeed. Hooper is strong, fast and has an excellent first touch.

You can't take those things away from him no matter how good the team is he is playing against.

I can guarentee Gary Hooper could get a hat trick against Wigan

Carroll has proved he can do it in the EPL and I knew he would, because he is tall strong and good in the air with decent pace.

That type of player always does good in the EPL. Place him in a La Liga team he wouldn't be half as effective.

Now Hooper at one point will go on into the Premiership and prove his doubters wrong but for now lets just be happy that we can see his talent for ourselves.

well first and foremost carroll is not worth 35mil and nor is hooper worth anywhere near that sum. as for who is better? they are two very different players, one who is your typical target man with class and technique bit like Santa cruz and Carew as mentioned above and Hooper is a poacher who reminds me of rooney. Personally i think they will be a great pair and partnership

 

Hoopster's a different type of player, but much better than Andy Carrol !!
Carrol had a half decent 4 months in the EPL & went to Liverpool for 35mil !!
Good Luck to him, but I personally feel he'll be the biggest joke of the EPL in months & years to come !!!!!
That price tag will always be a noose around his neck.

Just my opinion, obviously - and an opinion as a huge fan of Hooper as well. Completely different players, making comparisons nigh on impossible to make, frankly.

 

Hooper will do me nicely,

He is far better, but don't tell anyone in the EPL because I don't want him to leave.

The only reason this thug mug has cost £35m is because; Newcastle didn't want to sell, hoped the price tage would scare Liverpool off or knew L'pool had money to spend - and of course because of playing in the epl.
But let's not forget - this muppet hasn't scored against the big boys, whilst Hoops has scored against all comers!!!
Hoops is a natural and would fit well into any team. Having said that 'any' team are more than welcome to * off and look elsewhere for a striker!!!
