Liverpool sell Torres - they have £50M

    Buy Carroll and have £15M
    or
Don't buy Carroll and still have £50M

    He cost £35M, you're talking *.

Dalglish said the day before they signed him that he was going to get back to the pass and move football he learned at Celtic, then signed an old English style long ball loving centre box forward. For £35M. It absolutely stank of desperation after the sale of Nando. I suppose they couldn't be certain of how Suarez would turn out, and if they had known how quickly he'd settle I've no doubt they wouldn't have signed Carroll, but they * themselves, and are now paying the price.

Hooper is so much better than Carroll it's ridiculous.

To be fair I think it is hard to compare the two players. They both play a totally different game. Having said all that I fancy that Hooper would be as effective in the epl as Carroll is. Certainly one thing that is for sure is that Carroll costing 35m is a joke. He is nowhere near that good at all.

Different players but IMO Hooper is better - good movement, intelligent player, great link up play and can finish.

I've no doubt Hoops would score in any team, in any league!

Also think the £35m price tag may have heaped pressure on carroll and he's been affected by it and unable to live up to it!

Either way, glad we've got Hoops!!!

    Hail Hail

That's just not the way it works. They paid £35m for him so he costs £35m never mind how much money Liverpool had.

They paid more for him than City did for Sergio Aguero, Barcelona did for Alexis Sanchez or David Villa, more than Manchester United paid for Wayne Rooney....

They could have had so, so much better but they spunked it on Carroll.

Gary Hooper came from Scunthorpe 2 seasons ago after scoring 21 goals in that season for a team struggling above relegation. Andy Carroll played with Newcastle United the team that won the league and scored 19 goals...says it all in fairness!! Actually Newcastle were going to sell Andy Carroll that very same season for 1 million quid.

    I'm not picky.
They are different types of players but if you judge it purely on player for player, shot for shot and goal for goal and not taking into account the league they play in and the teams they play against, it would be Hooper for me all the way. I may be a bit biased there though :icon_mrgreen:

Honestly though, I've not been impressed by Carroll at all. He had a decent season at Newcastle but apart from that he's not been impressive. He's basically been for Liverpool as what Torres has been for Chelsea - overpaid, overpriced and overhyped.
