I can see the original poster's point. I have some Irish heritage, but I am Scottish and was born in Scotland, so I definitely feel more affinity for here. Forget all that Celtic were founded by Irish stuff. Celtic is a Scottish team, playing in the Scottish league. Preferably I would like to see no trilcolours or saltires at all at club games. Just Celtic scarves and tops. After all, Celtic is a club, not a country. Hail Hail.

I always hold the view that Celtic are an 'Irish club' in a Scottish League.

    sorry, thats a shame.
If you want to support an irish club as i said, go for it. Dublin has a few eh?

I dont mind irish supports, i dont care.
Just as long as they know when Celtic plays in europe they represent Scottish football.

    Some celts sayin like HUNS

They always said to us 'the Scottish who wanna be Irish'

It's really shame. We can't deny the Irish roots and we are the scottish football club.

    Don't be like a huns

I don't agree with Celtic is an Irish club in the Scottish league. 'If you know your history' you will know that we won a European Cup with only players from Glasgow, not Dublin. Nothing wrong with flying the tricolours in my opinion, after all it is the colours of the team.

Though any Celtic fan will have experienced the supporters who big up the Irish thing too much, but they aren't hurting anyone.

Edit: Didn't realise this thread was 5 years old, apologies

Do you know what, this is THE POINT above all POINTS I've been trying to get across to any Rangers supporters I chat to from the North Of Ireland!

Sorry to go off topic, but from the time of the Plantations here in IRELAND, generations have imigrated to IRELAND, Lived and brought up their childern, grand children etc for over eight generations in IRELAND, yet they have no interest till this day of identifying by the country of their birth IRELAND.

So why have over 8 generations rejected and continue to reject their birthrite identity??

Well, the same can be applied to some "Irish" in Scotland. I'm sure it makes you cringe when you see a 8th generation Irishman claim he is British or "Ulster" Scottish, and it makes me cringe when I see an 8th generation Scotsman claim he is Irish. Either way its a club that belongs to the supporters, you can fly whatever flags you want, I like the tricolour (not because of the politics, but because it looks nice). But at the end of the day it is a Scottish club, and most of its success has been due to Scots.

There are a lot of people out there that base their personality or identity on a country or a political belief, that is sad to me (whether it be a bigoted Rangers fan or a bigoted Celtic fan, though the latter imo is less common), these people should find something else to be proud of.

Don't be ridiculous. It is not bigoted for a person to state they'd prefer to see the Scottish flag over the Irish being flown at Parkhead, banning it on the other hand. I believe the SFA were * off because Celtic and Rangers, Scotland's biggest sporting exports, never want to let on their Scottish.
