    what a nonsense thread

Celtic signifies both Ireland and Scotland, we are celtic nations afterall thus this 'debate' over flying the tricolour is fairly stupid; at the end of the day, those moaning about a lack of saltires? why don't you * bring them then? celtic is a club open to all after all

as far as i'm concerned, i'm not Irish and have never claimed to be, i'm a Scot of Italian and Scots Gaelic (thus Catholic) heritage but i have to say i have no such patriotism for Scotland, i never really have and although i am not irish, i do feel a far greater affinity for for it; even if i dont personally fly the tricolour (or the saltire for that matter) at celtic games

plus, is it any wonder that those of Irish and/or Catholic heritage feel ill at ease at with Scotland? after all, both groups have been treated like * in Scotland for a long time and even today to hear the politicians and police praise yesterday as a 'great spectacle with a great atmosphere' makes me wonder if they are all * deaf; i was watching the game on tv and i was under no illusions as to what the huns were singing.

at the end of the day, Celtic are a Scottish club with undeniable, iron clad Irish roots. Deal with it. the great thing about our club is that despite these roots we are and always have been a club for all; anyone who has a problem with that should go support a wee diddy team which has no identity whatsoever; one of those so called 'family clubs' like Motherwell

    rant over

Wow some people are really wound up on this thread. Seriously don't see why Scotland flags shouldn't be flown when Celtic play in Scotland.

i think a few lads on here should read their history.

there would be no celtic, without the irish, me...along with 1000's of other celtic fans, are proud of our irish heritage, and i will fly the tricolour at celtic park.

but like i said if your so bothered about there being no saltires, go along and bring yer own, don't tell others to do it.

Ffs this is becoming tiresome. The saltire is the national flag of scotland. IT BELONGS AT CP! No matter what colour it is, it should not be for r*****s alone.
My opinion all flags are welcome but a special place for the scots & irish flags.

Same mate. I've only got blue ones in the house and although it's not a big issue it's still a colour clash in a half. Need tae get my hands on a nice green & white one for further use.

Seen a few cracking flags & banners with white and the green X. The kirkcaldy csc has a nice dark green one with gold trimming they always take.

Think more would get displayed if the flag sellers around the stadium made new designs aswell, implementing green & white ones (Like Hibs use or how Aberdeen uses red & white ones, etc)

Someone in area 110/109 up the back flys the saltire and yes I am a proud Scot seeing at least one saltire being flew in the stadium which isn't on a mast above the stadium.:50:

People need to realise we have a HUGE fanbase in none other than Ireland, I have no problem with people flying the saltire as I have no doubt that there are proud Scots who follow Celtic. Fly the flag, this club has a distinct history in world football and to stop flying the tri-colour would be denying the history but like I said fly the saltires all you want no ones stopping you. Let whoever wants to fly the tri-colour let them in return.

Nobody has the right to tell ANY Celtic fan which flag they should be flying. A Saltire can be any colour as long as the St Andrew's cross is there. Check your history books to see ancient banners flown by Scottish troops before the union of Parliaments and you will see.

If I took a banner to a match it would be either a Tricolour or a GREEN and white Saltire.

Well said. I know a lot about brother Walfried and our club's history. All of these that you wrote were reasons to become Celtic fans. Celtic was setup by those who formed it from charity for the poor immigrants of Glasgow's East End. So noble and I admire.

I'm a Scot with Irish rOOts and an Irish name. But I am all Scot. Nothing else!

I don't have a problem with any flags being flown at Celtic Park. Sure as a proud Scot I would like to see more Scottish flags. BUT yes they are blue and white, the colour of our rivals. I'm sure if Motherwell were our rivals we'd see more. Or if Celtic played in blue we'd see more.

I don't take flags myself. But when abroad with the hOOps I wear my kilt DESPITE twice taking * of plastic paddies. I can't stand plastic paddies and they are on both sides of the OF. It's always the same * excuses they give for it. But maybe if they cared about their homeland we wouldn't be in the mess we're in right now.

The Scots came from Ireland but before the first inhabitants of Ireland came from Scotland. We're the same people. We've just lost our balls! Scots used to be the ones the Irish and Welsh lOOked up to when fighting the English. But sharing the island with them it was always going to turn out this way, whether Irish lived in Scotland or as it is.

    Back to the fOOtball :)

We're the Celtic fOOtball Club. People should remember this. We're not Hibernian! We're not Eire FC! We're not Cymreag FC! Not Alba FC! Not Scotia FC! Not Caledonia FC!

Yes formed by an Irishman IN Scotland for Irish AND Scots for Catholics AND protestants. We're a Scottish team with Irish rOOts.

    McDonalds isn't a Scottish company!
    Greyhound isn't a Scottish company!
    The US Navy isn't Scottish!

    All created by Scots.

I never get involved in these threads because it always turns into an arguement and people can't accept other peoples opinions but theres a few comments in here that are just daft really.

"We're an irish team playing in Scotland"

    Aye OK.

I don't care what flag you want to wave at the Celtic games but we are a Scottish club with Irish roots. I don't know why people can't accept that.

We'll never forget where we came from our how our great club was started though.

Jeezo seems to be a lot of new people in this thread whose level of discussion is less than desirable.

Anyway, saltires blue and white ergo there's not going to be a sea of blue and white at Parkhead.
