I think it’s interesting that most conspiracy theorists are seen as right wing these days.
I agree that a lot of the threads here see conspiracy theories put forward (possibly too many) but always struggle with the link between that and being labelled as right wing.
For example, how does suggesting the Covid vaccine is just a money making scheme for big pharma make you right wing?

I think more because alot of the peddlers, especially US are fox news watching MAGA maniacs. In the UK the people who I knew who thought it was one big world wide scam were Daily Mail readers.

It’s more to a Venn diagram than the belief in a singular conspiracy theory making someone right wing. A singular conspiracy theory is actually quite hard to define. Even in the example you gave, I’d be surprised if there wasn’t numerous other theories linked to it with regards to the pandemic, the WHO, big pharma, financial institutions, government agenda, personal data etc.

Most studies show that its something that both the far right and far left are vulnerable too, which backs up the idea that it’s a political circle, rather than linear spectrum.

Go far enough Left and you’ll meet the right and vice versa.

As for the right wing label… well that’s probably linked/got a lot to do with A- the posters expressed views on different topics and B- the numerous times links supplied by them track back to some right wing bigot/site.
Although this can be ignored if anyone thinks it’s just a random coincidence… I guess lol.

The Venn diagram/ cycle idea makes sense but does it not back up the idea that conspiracy theorists shouldn’t necessarily be labelled as right wing nutters?
Going back to your original post, I don’t agree that far-right views don’t still stand out a mile on this forum.

thats because there is no link between someone who can see the evermore blatant corruption and entanglement of big buisness and government and right wing idealology. its a negative slur against anyone who doesnt buy into their own enslavement . its exactly the same as calling someone who is critical of israel an anti semite .its almost as bad as calling someone a conspiracy theroist when there is a mountain of evidence to prove a theroy to be fact .climate denier ,covid denier ,putin apologist all terms to try and silence opposition to a globalist agenda

I wasn’t talking about Venn diagrams making people right wing. I was talking about the well documented correlation between people at extreme ends of the political spectrum and the belief in conspiracy theories.

The Venn diagram was in relation to people who are vulnerable to conspiracy theories generally believing in a number of them.

Hence, you mentioning three conspiracy theories (climate change denial, globalist agenda, and the various covid conspiracies) alongside a popular right wing position of attempting to justify the actions of Putin, giving me a chuckle. All in the space of a single sentence too.

You thought I was expressing sympathy for them/you? It’s not something I sympathise with unless it’s having a particularly negative effect on their lives. Believe what you like as long as it doesn’t affect others. Convince yourself you’ve seen the strings and everyone else is a bunch of sheep, if it makes you happy.

It’s a position often adopted in response to being unable to understand the complexities of certain issues. Boogeymen behind the scenes are often much simpler to comprehend than a chaotic and uncertain reality.

The most prominent conspiracy theorist in the world has recently confessed to being a complete and utter liar, taking advantage of (usually pretty simple/uneducated) people for his own monetary gain. It’s worth aiming at least as much scrutiny towards these sources as you do the BBC.

Anyway, none of this really has anything to do with the actual topic, so I’ll leave it there.

Calling people right wing conspiracy theorists is just a way to avoid having a discussion.

Trying to have a rational conversation about the climate crisis being exaggerated or the covid vaccines not being safe and effective will result in the same few posters having a meltdown resorting to name calling and never actually responding to any points. That, or they will just ignore the points they can't respond to.

I've started to see people I used to work with go down the rabbit hole with all this bollix, it is usually the easily lead type with zero critical thought aswell, luckily I think there is way too many people of sound mind here, I don't care how someone wishes to frame it, Irish people were welcomed all over the world, the hypocrisy of these mindsets is mad.
