Hail Hail from a London Celtic fan

    Hi Everyone,

    My name is Maria, :bbpd:

I found your website via the This is anfied website. I was really touched by some of your tributes on Hillsborough.
I am not ethnically Scottish, Irish, I’m Asian although I do have connections via relatives. Here is my story of how fell under the spell of Celtic FC. I was born and brought in London but lived in the Qatar (Persian Gulf) for some years. I grew up loving Football, it’s a family thing but I was a bit scared to go to football matches because of the violence associated with game. I had friends and relatives who are avid Celtic fans (some who live up in Glasgow) as well as Liverpool fans.
Quite a few years ago, I was invited by a friend who is a seasoned Celtic fan to a pre-season friendly against Fulham, I had the most fantastic time and it made me think seeing a game live is not as scary as I thought it would be . I was so astonished and, so overwhelmed by friendliness, cheerfulness and kindness the Celtic fans showed that I felt that I should follow this great club closely.
After a couple of years my father passed away. He loved football. I felt lost and my whole world crashed down on me as he was my best friend and mentor. I joined one of the official Celtic FC supporters clubs in London to escape from mundane things of everyday life and my family who I fell out with as I was so grief stricken. I felt I was joining my Dad’s family and their kindness and support helped me cope with my bereavement.

Finally I was fortunate to go to Parkhead last year to see a match . When I got to the stadium I was near the top I had this spiritual feeling inside me that my father was with me in the stadium. It was a most extraordinary moment of my life, I think Dad was trying to tell me something and I felt so inspired, it made feel that I have to get through life in the best way I can. The Celtic fans with their uplifting, inspirational and humourous outlook saved me from a lifetime of depression and despair.

Many thanks to you all Celtic fans. * bless

    Hail Hail
