I was wondering were you think Celtic fit in the grand scheme of things?

Have ajax got the money to compete with the better teams in europe,if not they will remain a mediocre team in europe .

Yes they are well quoted in europe ,but they havent been about in a while ,they should be up there ,but what is it that is holding them back ?:50:

Your right KD, Ajax has a rich history but have under achieved in Europe in recent years, however they do spend money. I think their club record signing is Huntlaar for 12 million, when you spend at that level you would expect better . I would rate Celtic as a much bigger club in terms of size, on the surfuce though it seem that we are being out spent by a club in a similar sized league, in terms of finances.

For me we are a 3rd tier club, who should be looking to establish ourselves as a 2nd tier club.

Between 2. and 3. We're something like PSV and Werder, but Porto and Roma aren't much better from us, if they are at all. Of course, we're able to really scare the 1. tier teams at home, as well.

I think th2nd tier has us in it though i also believe that the major difference is finance because we have the fan base / stadium / history etc but we cant compete financially so we cant afford the players they can although even then trying to get the very top players to come here will always be difficult

I'd say we're just above the teams in the 3rd tear so I voted 2nd. Seriously if we had mega bucks to splash we'd be right up there.

we'll be back hopefully .. van Basten will be a great manager..

ajax have spend this transfer window :

    (in euro's ..)

    Sno : 1, 25 mln
    Dario Cvitanic : 6,5 mln
    Ismael Aisatti : 4 mln
    Oleguer Presas 3,5 mln
    Miralem Sulejmani :16,25 mln

    total of 31,5 mln..
Can't see celtic spending that amount...

Ajax has no debts or loans with banks or anybody.. last year we sold Sneijder for 27 mln and Babel for 18 mln , together with a few other transfers they got about 60mln euro's from transfers out..

Wages in Scotland are higher then in Holland, i think a lot of money goes into that wich celtic isn't able to spend on players in.. best payed players @ ajax are Huntelaar & Luque with around 2,2 mln euro's a year.. don't know who Celtics best payed player is??

The thing that amazes me with Ajax is their youth system. For being a big club in a small pond (no offense intended), they've got the best youth system in the world -- the likes of which Barca would be proud.
The good side is that -- as you point out -- they can pay lower wages to youth. The bad side is they can't seem to hold onto these fabulous players longer than a handful of seasons. When Sneijder was there they seemed to be waiting for Huntelaar to really turn it on, now that Huntelaar has come to form I'm sure they're lacking something else. :54:
Why they've failed to push their way into CL the last few years is beyond me though. Poor coaching? Lack of concentration? Surely it hasn't been the quality (despite what I said above, I think they had the quality to get through qualifiers and beat Twente was it?)

Top tier as we've proved we can compete with those teams.

poor coaching and poor technical management, in holland we don't have managers like in the uk, with van basten now that has changed, he will be in total controll like a manager is..

I would say bottom end of tier 2 when we beat the likes of Man Utd, Milan.. and close to the top of Tier 3 overall
