I have a real feeling that Rodgers might go with Maeda up top for this. Don't know why and it would be a huge call but I get the feeling Rodgers will see Maeda causing untold issues to their centre backs on the break. Yang, Maeda, Abada?? I would have Kyogo all day long mind you. Maybe I am way off but I can see it happening.

Hatate was an absolute baller in Japan and several journalists had commented on how good he was. Ange later came out and said that when he played against Kawasaki that Mitoma and Hatate ripped his Yokohama team a new *. So he wasn’t an unknown quantity to Ange for starters. How familiar do you think Brendan is with Bernardo? More than likely he’s seen a few clips of him then will get to see him in maybe one training session.

There was evidence he was a class player. I’m not seeing that same evidence for Bernardo, who’s he been playing against and for who ? Benfica under 23?

I’m not saying the lad isn’t a good player but to be chucked in straight away at Ibrox against the Huns you have to be a special player. Especially when we have O’Reilly and Holme.

O’Reilly has shown up well against them before and Holme looks like he has a bit about him.

Jesus mate, this is mental. 2 guys who are attacking young wingers as wingbacks, and AJ at RCB where looking at the World Cup when Canada played him there, he absolutely doesn’t know how to play there.

Hatate people weren’t sure if we were bringing him in as a LB or what his position actually was, and was like a year away from playing University football.

The fact Ange knew exactly how he wanted him to play for us and knew his qualities very quickly shut everycunt up.

But that’s the best part of the point your making to be fair - Ange knew.

i wouldn’t have chucked O’Reilly in after arriving 48 hours before a game against the Huns having one had just one training session.

Doesn’t make sense to when we have Holmes, Iwata and O’Reilly. The lads 21 years old and played most of his games for Benfica under 23 or on loan.

No way I’d play Turnbull either.

Aye nothing against Bernardo I think he could be a cracking player for us but when Ange signed Hatate I think he knew he wasn’t a project player and he knew exactly where he was going to play him.

I think Brendan will view Bernardo as a bit of a project or at least someone who will be quite raw albeit talented.

To chuck someone like tht in against the Huns on short notice when we have Iwata, O’Reilly and Holme I think would be madness.

I don’t understand why so many have him in the starting line up already. If he was a seasoned international or had been playing at a high level I could see the logic.

Because of lack of options that people would rely on, so throwing him in, that’s throwing a young guy out there to get absolutely destroyed though. He’d not have even one training session with us.

I’d start Iwata but he’s not been seen at all so Rodgers won’t, so I’m hoping for Holm and for us to have done major work this week in training on roles and shape in midfield

It was Japan though. A league 90% shat on from a great height when Ange was appointed.

Abada frustrates the life out me, first touch, final ball, but he has one thing you can't teach in football and thats being in the right place at the right time. I like Yang but he must play Abada against the shitebag Barisic. Personally I would start Scales but i have a feeling Phillips will get the nod.

Japan has always produced pretty technical players.

Also we had reason to believe Ange would be very familiar with that played unlike Brendan and Bernardo.

And it may not feel like it but we have more options now than back then. Two of Iwata, O’Reilly and Holmes could all start.

Not ideal but it’s not quite Mcarthy, Soro and Turnbull level of desperation in which case you would have a better argument of starting Bernardo.

Reckon Maeda will definitely start, his pace and energy frightens the * out of them then bring on fresh legs later.

I’d rather Abada & Yang but the important ones are Phillips starting at the back and Turnbull not playing at all.

I’d be absolutely fine with Iwata or Holme partnering McGregor and using MOR further up. I would also lean towards Holme I think he looked good so far.

With a midfield of those 3 out of 4 I see no logical reason to start Bernardo unless he turns up to training yesterday and was levels above everyone else. I just can’t see it though.
