We shall see come August and we are playing teams like Sion again, until then it's a guessing game. A lot of fans on here will be let-down I reckon, sadly. We aren't the great team that will do well in Europe that some would have you think. We do have a good chance of getting to the group stages but I wouldn't be surprised if we lost out in the qualifiers.

Just what is a CL quality team nowadays?

Otelul Galati, Genk and Dinamo Zagreb were all in the group stages last year. Now I would fancy us to beat anyone of them in two-legged knockout game. Infact we are certain to face a team of this stature in the qualifiers.

I think we have the potential to be a last 16 team again. I think this team will grow to be just as good (if not better) than Strachan's lot.

As lots of people have already said, just qualifying for the group stages would be success. I hope we can do this and hear that great music at Paradise again.

And in answer to your question, we have come a long way since Sion. You only have to look at our showing in our EL group to see that. We played against 3 top sides and weren't hammered in any game.

the development of mulgrew , hooper, rogne and james forrest game over the past 12 months has made us a far better team .that plus a fully fit and in form kayal , izzy , samaras ledley matthews and brown , would make us a very competitive european side , capable of plaing CL football.

We need to focus on being consistant dometically first. We are far to inconsistant and tactically inept.

With a few good signings and maybe a few appearances in Europe we in time could get stronger, this is depending on the state of the SPL however.

If we by some reason make the CL groups. I would be happy with just making a decent account of ourselves. If Europa, we need to try and get out of the groups.

A lot of national leagues across Europe are producing stronger teams, while the SPL is going backwards and an alarming rate. We need to just ride the storm out.

    Hear Hear.

This year we've been pumped out of 2 cups and lost 2 Old Firm derbies to a (and lets be honest) * woeful Rangers side. But hey, on the bright side: It's only took 4 years to win the league against the worst Rangers mob I've seen since the days of getting lifted over the turnstyle by ma Da'.

Still, gotta laugh when I hear stuff about we're only a couple of players off a Champions League group side or even a last 16...:56:

Now you're bringing the Mowbray times into account when 90% of the players were different! This year, we overturned a 15 point deficit in the league and won it by 20! We drew twice with udinese, beat a good Rennes team at home. We also played most of this year without kayal and izzy, arguably our best 2 players.
Also, I don't think you can compare the league to the 2 cups, even though we were cheated out of them. Give me 1 league title over the 2 cups any day.

Should never have been 15 points behind that shower a * in the first place. That was a * embarrassment back then. They should still never have been able to do 3 in a row and I never wanted rid of Gordon. I was happy with last 16s in CL and titles. You'd never hear me greetin aboot boring fitbaw (not saying you were either though just point out I never wanted a change in manager).

This might sound a bit cheeky but Rennes? Whoop de doo. It wasn't that long ago we were holding our ground a Celtic Park against Euro super clubs. We've barely moved since Strachan left.

    ^^

Only taking 4 years to win the league against the worst Rangers side since my childhood is an absolutely fantastic achievement. Wonderful. Getting beat by the mighty Sion and back in to Europe on a technicality. Marvellous...:56:

If this is what we aspire to then give me more. Please.

The thread is how far have we come since August. This team bares no comparison to strachans team. This team has given one of the best teams in Italy 2 good games and has beaten one of the top teams in France. That EL group was as close as you get to a CL group without being a CL group.

OK. Losing 2 cups. * up probably the only chance I'll see in my lifetime for Celtic to win the league at Ibrox. Losing 2 Old Firms to a woeful Rangers side. Dropping behind by 15 points early on in the season. Yeah man, we've move forward in leaps and bounds.

I'm not convinced we'd even a won the league if they hadn't lost 10 points. But either way we'll never know.

All in all I don't count this as a great season (on the park. The Huns off park drama has been great fun). it's been a mediocre season.

That was then.. This is now.
Then, rangers were better and it was embarrassing I agree. What you have to realise is that has * nothing to do with the current crop of players. This team threw away the league last year, this team learned from that, this team shat all over rangers this year over the course of the year and certainly put them in their place in the last OF game of the season. This team has drawn away from home with one of the best teams in Italy, not to mention drawing at home due to conceding a penalty which was never a penalty in the last minute.

Stop whining. Yes we've had bad times recently under Mowbray but Lennon has turned that around. D-Day is fast approaching. We really must qualify for the CL this year. To do that, we need all the fans behind Lenny and his team. Not slagging them off for not winning diddy domestic cups or beating Rennes because aparantly Rennes are *

I just gave you my account of the season.

LOL, Champions League. We can't even win the "Diddy Cups" (your words not mine).

Whining? We were asked for thoughts on the season's progress. Mine don't agree with yours so I'm wining...

We * up winning the league at ibrox ? Dont forget that they were good enough over the course of the season to have the chance of winning the league that day !
    Talk about negativity..

think its harsh to call it a mediocre season, we won the league, got to a final and semi final and made europe group stage (even through a technicality)

If i where to ask you if that was more than mediocre at the end of last season/beggining of this season don't try to say you would have said "pfft thats not enough man"

A league against a Rangers in administration and nothing else is a mediocre season. I think people are forgetting who they support. I expect better from Celtic than "we got a semi and a final". This was a mediocre season.

2003 was a better season and we didn't win anything. Getting UEFA group stage was not down to us, it was luck we were drawn against cheats.

I love how giving my account of how we've done this season is called whining...:56:

A league against rangers in administration ? Bullshit. We were 4 points clear and 1/5F in the bookies to win the league before rangers went into administration.

We'll never know either way if the points deduction had an affect on the pressure the team felt. We all know that over the last 2 seasons they've not exactly handled the pressure games to well now have they?
