Thank you. That's really nice of you to say because I actually did put a lot of thought into the whole Griffiths situation today.

This is a grown man we're talking about. If he is suffering from mental issues or problems (how you know this I don't know!) then he shouldn't be playing football! If this is the case, Celtic should inform he he'll never play for the club again and refer him to a hospital.

But, as I said, I just think he's a scumbag who's too stupid or too evil to be offered any kind of sympathy. The club certainly wouldn't show any leniency to a 'fan' in a similar position, and they shouldn't show any to a very well paid employee who should be held to an even higher standard.

I know what he means, it's just strange that all of a sudden people are referring to us as a team for refugees, something i've never heard before in my life. Stupid.

I'm not arguing that it isn't a factually correct statement.

I take you've just started following Celtic then?

Anyone with even a limited knowledge of the club's history would know it was a club formed by refugees for refugees.

Here's one display, not so long ago, by the Celtic support recognising such a connection between the club and refugees:

It shows a connection, it doesn't say, 'Celtic, a club formed by refugees for refugees'. I don't think anyone had ever said that before this incident.

Grown men suffer too. I don't see why having mental issues should disbar you from playing football.

He's not evil, mate, that's just ridiculous. Is he a scumbag? I don't think so but maybe, I'm not sure how useful that label is for this discussion, though. He's certainly very stupid, but we can and should start to do something about that...I actually think Broony's already working on it.

I agree about the double standards. A fan would have been banned and we all know what would have happened if one of our cleaners was on a video singing this song: they'd have been sacked for gross misconduct and the club would have issued a patronising and pompous statement about how it takes its anti-racism stance very seriously, etc. :blahblah1 I don't think that, awful though it is, makes any difference to how we should deal with Leigh Griffiths, though. It is rather an argument for treating our fans and low paid employees with less contempt.

    That's just not true.

August 2008 a banner by the Green Brigade, 'created by immigrants refugees welcome'.

All Celtic fans i know are aware our stadium was built by refugees and formed to feed them.

You're not serious are you? You need a banner which explicitly says 'Celtic, a club formed by refugees for refugees' in order to recognise that statement as fact?!

As I said, anyone with even the slightest grasp of Celtic's history would know why the club was formed, and who it was formed for.

Yes, I understand that the statement is correct, as i've said already, i've just never heard anybody refer to us as a club formed by refugees, funnily enough, until this incident.

You need to be able to hack the goldfish bowl mentality that comes with being a Celtic player, Griffiths has shown he doesn't have the mental capacity to do that and its only a matter of time before he embarrasses us again. I made the point before he signed that he doesn't have what it takes mentally to play for us but was prepared to give him a chance.

His racist chant and reaction to the fans on Saturday has just made me think that he isn't worthy to wear the hoops.

    How do you know?

Do you keep tabs on what every Celtic fan says?

Even if what you're saying is true whats your point?

Is it really as ridiculous as diagnosing him as having mental health problems?!

I tend to regard racists as being too stupid or too evil for me to offer them any kind of sympathy. My view certainly won't change because Leigh Griffiths plays for Celtic.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that one of our players singing a nasty song calling someone a refugee gave this aspect of our clubs history an especially heightened relevance to the conversation that it doesn't usually have.:celt_2:

Yeah I keep tabs on everything every Celtic fan has ever said.

That people like you are changing it up to make this incident seem even worse and it's kinda pathetic.

I'm not diagnosing him with a mental illness, I am not a doctor. All I said is that you don't have to be a psychologist to see he's deeply troubled (come on, mate, it's obvious) and that it looks to me like he's acting certain issues to do with abandonment out (this is admittedly just the impression of a layman and not a psychologist, I may well be wrong).

Well, if you regard racists as too evil to offer any sympathy to, I doubt you'll ever help many of them to see why they're wrong. :54:
