That still leaves the point thst he started the song.

just trying to lighten the mood,

on a serious note, if Celtic FC really want to take action on what a man does in his own private time then they should consider asking LG to spend some voluntary time at a refugee holding center in order to better understand the full range of problems facing refugees... and it would do no harm for other players to join him in order to raise public awareness

Mate, that's exactly the kind of thing I want to see. I don't really see that sacking him achieves half as much (though it would at least send a message and so would be infinitely better than a slap on the wrist). I know I'm being annoyingly repetitive but I want him to have to do this for an extended period of time- long enough to make some friends who have been refugees.

Celtic FC should vigorously defend Leigh Griffiths on these SFA charges.

It is arguably possible that these alleged videos are a stitch up of Leigh Griffiths by persons unknown with an agenda against the player and Celtic FC

Whether it's a stitch up or not he should be wise enough to know that the second he pulls on our colors people will be hating on him and acting like he did gave all the oppertunity said people need to land him in it.

He was a complete ned to instigate the refugee song and there is no defending that type of behaviour.

I haven't seen any compelling or clear cut proof that Leigh initiated the said racist song, just an incoherent, hazy video which may have been put together in bad faith by person/persons unknown with a grudge against the player and the club.

It can also be argued vigorously that Leigh Griffiths alleged participation and intention in the " videos " are socially harmless and mere group joviality " behind closed doors, with no intention of making a public statement.

    Dear *.

So if a group of people were singing "[insert name] is a * n***er" it's just group joviality as long as it's behind closed doors and not meant for public consumption?

I've read some utter * since this video surfaced, that is right up there.

He is in a public house with the general the public drinking together, that is anything but behind closed doors and anything he does out in public will be highlighted and scrutinized and will always become a public statement.

Racism is Racism no matter how harmless and jovial it can be, we will obviously disagree on the matter but to me there is no way Celtic should defend any type of behavior like this, I do not wish Griffiths to be sacked but more taught a very very harsh lesson with strict disciplinary action taken against him but under no circumstances should Celtic defend the behavior.

Good analogy. Really makes it clear why that post misses the point completely.

Racism being dismissed as joviality :smiley-laughing002:

His "go back home" tweet is still under consideration by the Crown Office apparently

I think the club should issue a last and final warning, Impose a ban about 5-6 competitive games for offensive singing and bringing the club into disrepute.

Leigh himself should issue a public apology to Skacel and make a donation, or do some good for a refugee cause.

I totally agree with this,i also reckon he should be left out of the first team for the remainder of the season while he's serving his punishment and being made to realise the rights and wrongs in his life.. And especially while he's here..

I think some sort of punishment has to happen. He has to learn to be a bit more mature.

After two known 'racist' comments from him I still wouldn't label him a racist. I've seen the mock offended on my facebook give him pelters. These same people are the kind that hit out with jokes as soon as there's some tragic news, usually about things like planes disappearing etc. I've also said some * in the past and probably recently as well that could be deemed offensive. Usually when I'm caught up in the energy of my surroundings. I'm certainly no bigot, racist, xenophobe, homophobe etc.

Anyways, he should be punished. I liked the idea someone suggested of a community service punishment by the club, something like that. I would maybe suspend him for the rest of the season as well, possibly without pay for so many weeks. Donate every single penny of it to charity. Those kind of punishments work. Charities win, the player learns. Sack him and he'd probably turn into a bitter * and no one wins.

Not sure what Lenny will do tbh. Would have been so much easier had he not rightly said racist * wouldn't be tolerated. There has to be a line, though. Getting caught up in derby day in the pub we've all sang * we might not mean. I think Lenny and the board can get away with not sacking him over this. Had we been playing Spurs and he done a * salute or something, that's completely different. I'd kick him out myself. Context.

Aye get Griffiths to issue a video like the following and his making a mockery of our history will be forgiven in an instant.
