Can I ask if you view the famine song as racist?

No, I view it as bigoted and discriminatory.

That is just semantics. Racism is a form of discrimination. Discriminating on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender, age etc. is all equally bad in my book.

If the reports are true, I cannot see myself cheer on Griffiths again.

I said he was guilty of discrimination, didn't I? I also said that what he did was worthy of punishment.

    He should be permabanned.

I don't think he is determined to be a racist - I think he is just thick as * and immature.

He needs a kick up the *, should be on his final warning - if he does anything else get him to *,.

Wish this wasnt the case as he's became my favourite player this season.

Fair enough. I thought you suggested that discrimination on the basis of nationality is not as bad as discrimination on the basis of race.

No, discrimination is discrimination. I just don't believe he was being racist.

Nope, I honestly don't believe what he did was racist. It was a form of discrimination, but it wasn't racial. The term "racist" has such horrifying connotations these days, and I really don't think someone should be branded as such when it's not true.

His previous actions on Twitter were racial in context though.

Its up to the club now. Either he get's an absolute final warning, a big fine and told to publicly apologise and told to wind his neck in. Or he get's the bullet.

I've always backed LG until this point but I can't be arsed defending neds just because they play for Celtic.

Look at the mass hysteria yer man got for the quenelle (sp?) Racism has to be vigorously attacked and rooted out in our game.

Whether he "meant" it or not is absolutely irrelevant. Behavior like that sully's the jersey, the end.

How can "go back to where you came from" be any more racist than the refugee thing.

Both are just focusing on nationality or perceived nationality in that case.

If he had called a black person from Sierra Leone a "* refugee" I don't think it having racist connotations would even be an issue for debate. I just don't think skin colour should have any bearing on what is a serious issue.

Whether it's 'racism' or 'discrimination' is besides the point. (If there's even a difference?!).

If true, it's completely unacceptable, and perhaps even more so when you consider the history of a club like Celtic. If the club are complicit in criminalising and banning their own supporters for singing Irish songs which no right-minded person could find offensive, then they've got no other option but to sack this scumbag.

This is bang on the money for me. Too many people getting hung up on trying to show it wasn't a racist song etc. At the end of the day, it is completely unacceptable, and if this had been a fan singing this in the terraces, then I think they would have been ejected, and probably banned from football matches. It is a sackable offence, and I would happily see him given his P45 for it.

Because the Twitter incident was based on the colour of the guy he was insulting as much as his nationality, whereas the Skacel incident is based purely on nationality.

The incident not being racist doesn't have any bearing on how serious it should be taken though, does it? Discrimination, be it based on nationality, gender, sexuality or race is a serious matter.

This particular form of discrimination is based on nationality and stereotypes based on that particular nationality.

Are you asking if there is a difference between racism and discrimination? Seriously?

Racism is a form of discrimination. It's not the form used by Griffiths though, in my opinion.

There'll be more to it than that, of course. I'm not sure you can just go around tearing up employees contracts without good reason.

Would this reason hold up in court? Or would it be deemed unlawful?

Also, are we prepared to throw away a player who just cost us a decent chunk of money?

    Most likely.

He's not a fan though, is he? He's not just a £500 season ticket and some money in the merch stand. He's an investment, a commodity. I reckon he's probably going to be a big part of what we do next season, and most importantly the club just spent a decent amount of money on him.

That will all come into account when the decision is made I reckon.

Punt him in the summer and recoup the money we spent on him. There will more than likely be a team willing to pay what we did for him. That would be the best solution in my opinion.

It would also depend on whether we are within our rights to sack him. If we are, then he might have to pay us compensation.

Someone needs to have a serious word with Leigh. He deserves a second chance, but he has embarrassed himself and the club. No matter how you look at it, he has been completely derogatory and considering the clubs roots and the historical struggles of the people Celtic was founded for, Griffiths actions go against everything Celtic stands for. Discrimination, whether racial or not, is completely unacceptable, especially at this club.

People defending him(i know it's a big minority), and fobbing this off as banter need to have a look at themselves, it also makes the club look bad. Fine him, bench him.

I hope we keep him. He can do whatever the Celtic PR department deem necessary to smooth this over, then after the summer it'll be business as usual.

    I'm saying it's irrelevant.

Celtic should be holding their own employees to an even higher standard. Particularly when their banning their own supporters for singing songs which were in the UK charts.

It's hardly just 'going around tearing up employees contracts' either! A Dunfermline fan was found guilty in a court for singing the same song a few years ago, I would be pretty confident if the allegations are true then Celtic would have more than a justified reason to dismiss him! Neil Lennon himself said it was a sackable offence not so long ago as well.
