Boruc was signed by Strachan mate? And Im convinced that team would have won the UEFA Cup and possible more with big Artur in goals.

LOL - this team is basically just O'Neill's team with Artur in goals. :icon_mrgreen:

Guess I could have predicted that, it was kind of a consequence of the decision to make it a 3-5-2, cos MON's the only manager in the last 10 years who has used that formation.

    My team would be 4-5-1

    Boruc

    Agathe Mjallby Valgaeren McNamara

    Lambert

    Nakamura Petrov Moravcik McGeady

    Larsson

Or a 4-4-2 with Sutton up front and McGeady on the bench.

    Not all Martins signings

    Boruc - Strachan
    Moravcik - Dr Jo
Petrov - The legend that is John Barnes:icon_mrgreen:

Interesting that McGeady doesn't make it into the team but I cant argue with it.

Ageed Mate. I mean Aiden has basically been our talisman for the last 5 seasons. I know it's come for the stage for him to move on, but can you imagine how Celtic would have stuggled without him over the past few seasons, he's been the player who our apponents fear most.
No disrespect to Didier Agathe who did a decent job for us, but IMO if Aiden was born a few years earlier Didier would never have been signed as we would have have had a prescious teenage talent to add to possibly the best team we've had in maybe even the last 20 years.

Overall a great team selection, but Aiden should be in that lineup.....

Tbh i really think that if Boruc was there during the O'Neil years we would have won so much more, would we have won the champions league? Well we would have made it past the group stages thats for sure and in a knockout tie, we showed in the uefa cup we could beat the best over two legs, so why couldn't this team have won the champions league, Monaco and Porto did it with players or much the same quality, over the piece celtic may not have had that slice of luck required.

Fantastic team there, hopefully some of our current players can force their way into that team over the next few years. In my opinion there is only one player from the celtic team that could be a legend and although we haven't seen much of him Juarez looks like the player than Neil was, Larrson was, Thompson was, a player that will run through a brick wall for the club... watch this space hopefully it will come true:) ^^

    Here's a wee question..................

10 years from now, how many of the players in this team do you think we would still keep in the team if we picked a 'Greatest Celtic team of the last 20 years'? Will we see many players in the next decade who will be as good or better than the players chosen in this team?

Equally I'd like to see how Strachan would've done with Larsson in the side.

I think without doubt the team will predominantly be the same unless someone from Lennon's side can step up and become a proper legend.

Fans have a natural disposition to don rose tinted glasses and a natural inclination to be critical of very recent/current setups. Everybody likes to criticise because it gives the impression that you know better than the manager, you know why things have failed (especially after a bad result) and therefore you're portraying yourself with intelligence.

Hindsight is absolute though and often you'll find managers make the right choices and team selections in given situations. Far too easy for people to criticise.

Oh yeah I should also mention that the O'Neill team that's taken precedence here comes at 2 important times in history - the rise of the internet and therefore an infinitely stronger voice for individual fans and also at our clubs richest point in European football.

The first means that on internet polls in ten years, going back to my point about tendency to rose-tint things, our current generation will no doubt be selecting the same players again and again because they are our favourites and because people naturally think that things in their particular generation are of particular importance. People brought up in the 70's have their favourite players in the 70's etc and the rose-tint thing intensifies this.

The second point is that we're unlikely ever to have that kind of buying power to afford £6m worth of Sutton, £6m of Lennon, which on today's market a fringe English national player can sell for upwards of £16m (Darren Bent, Crouch et al).

So in ten years I'm sure the internet will be occupied by the guys who voted in this poll. In ten years time there will be a new generation of supporters but I'm sure even if they weren't around for Seville or don't remember it, I think people will sure as * make sure they know about it.

I'm still not convinced the formation should've been 3-5-2, a dead formation that meant that the whole poll was geared towards MoN's players (although I don't doubt that 9/11 of those selected would be selected in a 4-4-2). Where do Naka and McGeady fit into that side given their only positions aren't even there to take?

In the next decade there is up for grabs a chance for another legendary goal-scorer to edge out Sutton, there is a space at LB that we've never really filled. But the players chosen have become such fan favourites with the internet generation that it's going to be very very difficult to shift them unless bona-fide world-class stars start appearing.

It's probably true that we will not be shelling out £6million on any single player again over the next 10 years but I would not say that precludes the possibility of us seeing players of the quality of Lennon, Sutton or Hartson over that time period. We could bring through players of our own who could turn out to be of that quality. You only have to think back to guys like Charlie Nicholas and Paul McStay to see that this is a possibility. Fair enough, guys like Nicholas and McStay don't come along that often but it's been a while since we developed a real TOP player of our own so perhaps we are due one. I certainly hope to see us develop at least a couple of real quality players over the next decade.

As I've explained before, but will do so again, the reasons I decided to opt for 3-5-2 were really twofold. Left-back has been a very weak position for Celtic over the last decade so if the team was set up in a 4-4-2 then that would have meant that a player who was gash would have made it into the team, I didn't really like that idea. By playing 3-5-2 it enabled a guy like Alan Thompson to get into the team who could easily have missed out if it had been a 4-4-2. There was also the question of Lubo. Lubo was always going to get voted into this team and his natural position was in behind the front 2, if the team had been set up in a 4-4-2 then Lubo would no doubt have ended up being picked as a winger/wide midfielder. He was never a winger/wide midfielder. I think picking the team in this formation allowed us to get more of the best players of the last decade into the team. Naka and McGeady could have been voted over Lubo if they were considered good enough but clearly they weren't. Good job too because neither Naka nor Aiden could touch Lubo but that is just my own personal view.

When the trequartista/AM role died at the start of the 00's the natural place for them is in fact on the wing though in a 4-2-2-2 (or 4-4-2 with inverted wingers). Like Arshavin now does for Arsenal and other examples. The other alternative is to play him up front with Larsson like he did in the early part of his Celtic career. There's no point saying we don't want Moravcik on the wing/up front and then putting him in central midfield where he also certainly never played. I mean what's really happened is we've went for the only formation to faciliate MoN's best team and in that case, well we can see the result - MoN + Boruc.

Oh by the way I should be clear that it's all too easy for me to criticise considering I didn't have any part to do in setting this up and I couldve spoken up earlier so just to let you know it's a really worthwhile poll/survey whatever the result so congratulations and thanks for putting all the effort into doing it :50:

Spoken like a true Football Manager connoisseur :icon_mrgreen:

The way the team looks in the graphic isn't quite how I picture it in my mind when I think about the team. When I envisage that central midfield this is how I see it.............

    Lennon-----Petrov

    Moravcik

There you have all 3 players playing in their natural positions and that's how it was played in actuality when Lubo was given a game by MON.
