Henrik Larsson

Discuss Henrik Larsson in the Ex Players area at TalkCeltic.net.

Yeah I wouldn't want him to come here and damage his reputation. No matter how good a player was if he comes back and messes things up he's going to get a lot of grief for it.

Look at King Kenny, his move back here was a disaster and even though I love his genius as a footballer I can't forget the disrespect he showed the club by appointing a complete rookie as manager. Well that's what it felt like for me.

We only want managers who are proven at a suitable level. It would be nice if they're an ex player because of the extra commitment and love they could show the club but that's way behind ability. Henrik's legendary status is forever part of the club now, it makes no odds if he doesn't make it as a manager. I wish him all the best though.

I lost a lot of respect for him after that. There's a lot of hyperbole about how bad certain managers were. When I hear some of the young lads complain about Mowbray and Deila, I think of guys like Liam Brady and Lou Macari, who were both much worse. Ronny and TM were competent managers who made mistakes and that it just didn't really work out for here.

Barnes, on the other hand, is not and never was a football manager. If you take into account the players he had, I genuinely think he is the worst "manager" we've had in my lifetime, possibly ever.

Larsson will bounce back, I have no doubt. With his attitude and commitment to excellence, I still believe he will make it as a manager.

Yeah I'd say I agree with that. No way is Mowbray as bad as his time here suggests. It just didn't work out. Same for Ronny, I backed him near enough to the very end because I honestly believe there is a decent manager in there and thought he would get the team playing consistently. I mean we played some excellent games under him and I thought it was going to be normal but unfortunately his whole move here was badly managed. I mean look at Brendan, got in all his own staff, even getting his own scout. Poor Ronny came for the assistant job so didn't bring any staff with him and ended up as manager on his own basically. Wouldn't surprise me if Ronny becomes a decent manager eventually.

Liam Brady and Lou Macari oh dear :fear: Great players too, just goes to show they don't always make good managers. The 90s is a period in our history I would like to mostly repress from my memory, apart from 1994 and 1997. Or maybe it's a good thing to remember it for future reference when we think things are going bad we can remember what a bad run really feels like.

Barnes was a complete mystery. Here we are, one of the biggest clubs in the world and one of our best ever players becomes director of football and appoints someone who had never managed a team in his life. I'm all for giving promising young talent a chance but I wouldn't sign a footballer who had never played a game. Another great player who wasn't cut out to be a manager. I've forgiven Kenny for it as you can see by my sig but I won't forget.

I don't know how much was down to Dermot and how much Lawell but rumour is it was all Desmond's work recruiting Brendan. What that shows is how big a club we are and what sort of talent we can attract and in future we should be remembering that and although we won't always get someone of Brendan's standard we should get managers who've managed successfully at a decent level and are very ambitious.

Hope Brendan is here for 5 years, probably more realistically 3/4 but you never know as he' s still young and if he can get us competing in Europe he'll be one of the most respected managers around.

I think you're right about Larsson, he's got so much of a football brain and also a very ambitious guy I'm sure he'll learn from his troubling times and end up doing well.

Young larsson is not good enough for celtic, not yet. Maybe in 2-3 years it could be realistic.

Feel bad for henrik, he hasnt had any success anywhere he coached. Dont think he will ever be coaching celtic tbh, prob for the best.

Great players don't always make great coaches.

I always thought he would be among the few to buck the trend for some reason.

Sad it isn't working out for him but pleased he didn't take the Celtic job, I just couldn't watch a Celtic team under him struggle. Would be soul destroying seeing a legend's reputation being tarnished.

Agreed, said the same when his name was being mentioned in the spring and when Lenny left.

It would be heartbreaking watching him struggle.

He could win 8 CL's in a row as a manager and I still wouldn't want him as manager invade it went wrong.

He's the closest thing to * for me

Never good to have a relegation on your CV but I echo the opinion of many in here watching him struggle as Celtic manager would be heartbreaking

Could you imagine coming on here and seeing someone like Kyndig or Wanayama tearing into him?

That would * drive me bananas.
