It was taken from an army song and the lyrics were changed.
Hail! Hail! the gang's all here,
What the deuce do we care,
What the deuce do we care,
Hail! Hail! we're full of cheer,
What the deuce do we care Bill! -

It was written by Glen Daly at the same time he wrote a song about John Thomson. The John Thomson song was supposed to be the big successful song but turned out that hail hail was.

My earliest memories of Celtic are getting a "lift-over",making my way to the very front of the Jungle, watching the "Massive big Polis" walking round the perimeter and hearing Glen Daly singing "Hail Hail the Celts are hear".
