Would be trying our best to get him

However it looks like he's keen himself to stay and fight for his spot.

Him and Engels are the two players we’re linked with I want the most. The exact type of players we should be signing.

If you're Gustav, you must be thinking that you've seen your fellow Dane move to the EPL for mega money.

We can do the same for him.

    Scott Burns

Celtic have also opened talks with Lazio about a possible loan for their Danish winger Isaksen.

Rodgers wants another wide option and the 23-year-old has been put to him as an option

Well we are as it’s the end of the window, let’s be brutally honest here. We simply cannot go into this season with what we have.

So we are going to take what’s left because we have no choice, Rodgers can say he’s knocked back people earlier in the window but he won’t be able to say that now because if we don’t get anyone else in can we really expect us to be able to compete on all fronts? I don’t.

The club have said countless times X,Y and Z but time and time again they don’t strengthen from a position of strength.

Next year they can roll out the old excuse of well we need qualify first before we can get someone in.

So because it’s getting towards the end of the window, you think we’ll sign any available player or any player offered to us? Have a word with yourself. We could have signed Beck, but didn’t and instead waited and signed Valle, who Rodgers wanted.

We won’t sign a player this window without Rodgers approval. If we can’t get the right player, he won’t approve signing someone else for the sake of it. He’s made that abundantly clear. Rodgers is seeing the long game here, not just the immediate future - clear out deadwood, decrease the size of the first team squad and start investing more sensibly in recruitment with a higher calibre of player.

No matter what we do, we aren’t challenging on all fronts this season. Thats the harsh reality. Rodgers is focused on a process and we have to trust that.

We will have to sign someone who would have said no to previously, I honestly believe that. The reason, well we all know the options are limited, whether you like to admit it or not that’s a fact.

We are at the stage of clubs now scrambling to get rid of deadwood or trim their squads and maybe one or two big deals and panic buys.

it’s happened countless times with us, again that’s a fact.

It’s been made clear by Rodgers he wants quality in, this is the third window now….. why is it taking so long? I mean you could reel off excuse after excuse but let’s be honest the whole scouting set up and the way we conduct business is extremely frustrating due to the lack of preparation time and time again.

I mean it’s not like we are not sitting with over 100 million in the bank to go out and get players, Rodgers even said himself with the player sales he would be lucky to field a 5 a side team.

There has been enough deadwood cleared already for us to have signed the quality that’s needed. Let’s not make more excuses now.

The board and co have been sleep walking in this window now our options are more limited as it draws to an end.

Believe what you want, but Rodgers has been quite clear that the same mistakes won’t be made and that he won’t approve a signing out of desperation.

I’ve already commented numerous times on our shitshow of a scouting set up, there’s no point in trying to use that to point score. It’s something the club is reviewing and hopefully will stand us in better stead in future.

What evidence do you have that our options are more limited as the window draws to a close? As I’ve previously stated the contrary appears to be true - we could have folded and signed Beck, but Rodgers chose to hold out towards the end of the window to sign Valle, who wouldn’t have been available earlier, instead. We could have panicked and signed an attacking midfielder last week I’m sure, but have held out for Bogusz who Rodgers seemingly wants.

More players (and generally a higher quality of player) become available towards the end of the window due to various circumstances. It may be frustrating, but it’s reality.

Don’t worry I will believe what I want, the fact remains we are now waiting for cast offs or that young Belgium lad which is completely different as we could have approached him earlier in the window with absolutely no issues at all. But for some reason we haven’t, poor planning once again.

We haven’t got Beck in due to Liverpool and their hardball sell on fees and buy back
Options, just look at Bobby Clarke.
Valle is available because Barca don’t need him, hence why I’ve said surplus to requirements, and once again I said it’s a dangerous game to play.

Remember when we signed the Bayern left or right back on loan and people that that was a good deal and he was mince, again we got that opportunity at the end of window due to him being surplus to requirements and that was in 2010 it’s now 2024 and we are still carrying on with the same style of recruitment……

You can also believe what you want thinking we can’t get deals done till the end by the sounds of it.

We are going back and forth and our opinions won’t change one bit. That’s the final say in the matter I will have with this.

You’re arguing that there should be one blanket approach for all transfers though and that will never be the case. Should we have moved earlier for Engels? Yes (presuming the player himself isn’t looking for assurances of game time that we couldn’t give while O’Riley was in the building). Should we have signed a left back sooner? Not if Valle was the best option available and Rodgers wanted to wait for him. Should we have signed an attacking midfielder sooner? I’d rather wait on one that Rodgers rates than panic buy a project sooner. Should we have signed a centre back sooner? Ideally yes, but it’s fair to argue that we had to get one or two off our books first as having seven first team centre backs would have been ludicrous. Should we have signed a winger sooner? Ideally yes, but again we’ve got too many on our books already. So in an ideal world yes, we would have been far better prepared this summer, but a lot of the issues stem from previous mistakes which Rodgers is dead against repeating.

Your second paragraph is pure fantasy. Using a deal for an entirely different player (who has been far closer to Liverpool’s first team) as some sort of reasoning for Beck is nonsensical. You have zero evidence to support that claim. And yes, if Barcelona were guaranteeing Valle game time then he wouldn’t have to Celtic… what’s your point? That if he’s not good enough for Barcelona then he’s not good enough for us? Behave.

Edson Braafheid played in the World Cup Final in 2010. His time at Celtic was an abject failure (in a terrible team), but our recruitment team weren’t the only ones to see something in him.

Again; I’ve not once said we shouldn’t get any deals done sooner. Not anything close to it.

At least I have good reason not to change my opinion I suppose, but I agree that there’s zero point in going back and forth.
