That team he took over was so devastating. It would run through anything. Then the following year they looked a bit *

Depends what happens though, I think only Barcelona would knock Bayern out so if they avoid Barcelona then they should reach the final. But if they get Barca and go out in the quarters then theres nothing he can really do, if they knocked Barca out though it would be a great achievement and then you'd expect them to go on and win it if they didnt it probably would be a failure unless it involved dodgy decisions or Real Madrid maybe caught them out on a good day.

It was something that really surprised me what he said he was leaving. I even said days before it he definitely will be staying with Bayern because he needs to win the CL with that awesome team.

I'm starting to get the feeling Guardiola is so revered he's not judged only by trophies. Maybe they're just saying Barca was changing the paradigm and he's kept Bayern at the best in the world level alongside Barca. The thing is, if he doesn't win the CL this year then it's going to start to look abit nuts compared to Mourinho who won it nearly everywhere he went although his style is depressing compared to Pep. But Pep has a huge challenge making City good enough to win the CL in 3 years. And if he doesn't win it then that's just Barca he's won it.

I don't want him to win it this year. I find Barca more exciting, not to say Bayern aren't, they're incredible, just not so much.

Can't help but feel Simeone is a shoe-in for the Chelsea job.

I reckon' he'll keep Navas due to the Spanish connection and use him as a Pedro type impact sub.

Lewandowski will no doubt be linked. Thing is they could spent £500m in theory and not even blink.

Isn't that family who owns them worth a combined amount of something like £600bn? :smiley-laughing002:

Maybe not quite as much but I mind reading that. I know the main man is worth £30bn alone.

Jesus Christ I mean it was kinda expected but still a shock. It's a bit should destroying cause they are plastic but hey ho. Il tune in to the EPL more now. Mourhino to man united now surely? Unless they keep the sissy Van Gaal. I think Pep should have won one CL to be honest.

Also I know they have been lowered but the ffp rules still apply so how can he spend £200m?

I read tha FFP was basically scrapped because EUFA know if it gets challenged in court they don't have a chance and it would be too expensive to risk the trial.

I don't know how true that is but the article, it was a while ago so I don't remember where, mentioned City and Madrid, said they could spend what they liked.

    Guardiola - City

    Mourinho - United

    Simeone - Chelsea

    Klopp - Liverpool

Would be very interesting. I don't even like English football.

Well you're in luck cause there's no English managers on there. :icon_mrgreen:

I wonder if they would change the game in England eventually.

I don't think poor Klopp is going to get anywhere near the potential buying power of Chelsea , City and Utd. He's probably got the toughest job.

Typical EPL arses out in force 'he only manages big clubs' ehh obviously? He's hardly going to manage wee non-entities.

Sometimes I think he's gotten a bit too high on himself and makes some "overthinking" mistakes against bigger sides with the same amount of quality. He's always been good at spotting talent though, so the money he gets at City should build a great squad.

Like 3 at the back against Barca...

The style and work rate he gets out of his teams is unmatched though.

Yep, no doubting his talent. The English Premier League has been getting interesting over the past year, and this will only make it more so. I wonder how long it'll take for the big continental clubs to push for a unified European League. With MLS and the Chinese Premier League growing gargantuan amounts each year and the EPL swallowing TV contracts larger than the other leagues combined, they could start worrying about their futures as world (economic) powers.

I wonder the same thing. My mate is a member on an Inter forum, showed me it. So I had a look.

They have a finance section and it would shock you how pitiful their revenue streams are. The media income is so poor in comparison to Juventus and Milan. Milan despite being awful, make far, far more in merchandising that Inter. They have no stadium rights, their sponsor with Pirelli is about £10m a season and the Nike deal is pitiful.

Roma have no sponsors, and most Italian clubs are verging on bankruptcy. The game is beat.

Ended up reading about 20 pages. Felt bad for them but remember how * bad we have it. Their problems don't even come close. :smiley-laughing002:

It's a big problem. At least our success was a long time ago so we can be nostalgic. But clubs like the big three or four in the Netherlands just had the carpet swept from them despite continuing to produce some of the best talent on the continent and being from a nation (and largely defining its style) whose national team regularly competes for continental and world titles. Now they've been sucked dry even of their coaching talent and there's a bit of a crisis going on behind the scenes. European football is at a breaking point I fear - some clubs and leagues are racing ahead, leaving old powers wondering what to do. The options are to do something bold, or to die a slow death.

You've got a guy, more or less considered the best in the world, who willingly left Bayern Munich for Manchester City. For 90% of football's history this would have been an incredible event, but now it's not surprising.

Imagine how good it must be to be a City fan just now?

Literally signing the best manager in the world - one of the best in history. From absolute dog * and relegation fodder, to this. In what - 10 years?

    Jesus man.

And we've got some wannabe Turk coming in.

Not so great if you look at their forums. They've acquired the same type of entitlement as the other top English clubs have.

Aye it's absolute madness, their fans would never have imagined it.

This was the Man City team 10 years ago today...

8 years ago they lost 8-1 to Middlesborough. It's a truly dramatic change in fortune.

As someone who hates a club like City, I must put that aside and as a football fan can't help but be intrigued to see what Pep does at Manchester City. Of course there're players like Aguero, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Sterling, Silva, etc who'll immediately fit into his style of play however the first thing they seem to be crying out for is a Deep-Lying Playmaker, an Alonso or a Busquets. I do not believe Fernando has the passing range to fill this role or the tactical intelligence. So it'll be interesting to see who he brings in that regard. Then there's Toure who he probably won't have time for so you could even see him bringing someone like Thiago along with him as a bit of energy in the centre of the park. Kolorov and Zabaleta do seem like his type of full backs but neither are particularly young though. While Komapny and Otamedi would be seen as pretty alright centre-halfs, heck Denayer might even get a chance. He'd probably look for a DLP, a CM and a winger. Possibly a full back or two before really molding this team into one that reflects his ideology of what a team should be.
