Again, being welcome in a stadium and being a generally good guy who often shows a good attitude is basic, basic stuff. Several on here, over the years and recently as well, have spoken about his behaviour in throwing his arms up in the air and blaming team mates for things - when at fault himself. Doesn’t happen all the time, but he does it far more than others. He also could choose not to leave acres of space. Johnston cuts in sometimes, but rarely leaves half the room Taylor does. To me, that’s a poor team mate on the pitch.

We can agree to disagree in the conclusions we draw from his behaviours good and bad, but they’re there to see, and I’m not the only one to remark on the negative aspects.

I have seen multiple videos of him interacting with fans and in hospitals and he genuinely seems like a top lad.

Even in Europe, he's had some brilliant games for us. It's just a pity he is so small and slow by modern standards, because he's a very good footballer. These players in Europe now are absolute machines physically. If he'd been playing in the 90s, he'd have been much less exposed in that respect.

    Absolute waffle.
Never to the point I’d describe it as unhealthy.

Yeah, that’s totally fair enough. To me, though, without being a prat about it, I’m not paying money to see the lad visit a hospital.
Elements of his attitude on the pitch are commendable, of course - his work rate, etc. However, if I were a team mate I would struggle with other on-field aspects of him.
Seeing the spoilt way he can act is hard to take as a supporter, when you’re watching him make mistake after mistake in the bigger games, only for him to then spit the dummy.

It’s alright, bud. It’s just a forum post from someone who knows you can support a team without blindly and pathetically fanboying every single player as though they can do no wrong. Clearly you can’t handle that.

We aren’t watching the same player. I said the standard isn’t good enough. Thats never made someone unlikable.

I guarantee your issue is a personal one, you don’t like him. Just admit that. Doesn’t mean he’s unlikable when it’s a you problem.

We've had plenty of unlikable players over the years , we don't all "pathetically fanboy" them. We all just like Taylor.

Mate, you know yourself from seeing some posters’ track records here that there are plenty who do. I’m not at all saying that everyone defending Taylor is like that, but there are usual suspects when it comes to just stubbornly not critiquing players.

To be fair, mate, maybe your first post was worded a bit carelessly. From your subsequent posts, it sounds like all you meant by "dislikable" was "I find him annoying" and all you meant by "obnoxious" behaviours was "I find these behaviours frustrating". I can relate to that as I felt the same about Iwata.

For all the reasons people have given above, Taylor's definitely not dislikable, though. Even describing his behaviours on the pitch as "obnoxious" is not really justified.

I think you play Schlupp on Tuesday. Don't personally think Taylor is good enough at this level and given his contract situation there's no real onus on us to play him. Would be different if he was a consistently high performer, but I don't think he is.

I appreciate the sincerely conciliatory aim of your post here - I’m not being sarcy; I mean that. However, it’s hard not to find it a bit condescending: when I said ‘obnoxious’ about Taylor, I really didn’t just mean I simply find it annoying; it’s more like, ‘I get the impression he doesn’t care about the acres of space and the hazards for his team mates’.

Similarly, it’s hardly unreasonable to call out as ‘obnoxious’ behaviour that includes blaming team-mates and throwing his arms up in the air like he’s spoilt.

You’re right though, that, ‘I find him annoying’ and ‘he’s dislikable’ are pretty much synonymous. I’m not going to commend as a likeable guy someone whom I find annoying and not prepared to work on his glaringly obvious errors of judgment.
