Don’t think Taylor was really bad or poor last night tbh. Valle was excellent when he came on, and plays the role far differently than Taylor, and it was very effective.

Brugge made sure he couldn’t support McGregor in the middle of the pitch. Something you can tell they were focusing on to not allow to happen. Valle plays the role very differently, and it caught them out majorly when we swapped them. And Valle went from strength to strength. He was excellent, rather than Taylor poor.

There was a few times second half that we got Kuhn one v one agains their full back, and he got no change out him whatsoever. You don’t need to put a challenge in, just go and get tight so the player can’t get the ball out his feet and run at you. Make him do something. You just cannot let the player travel that far with the ball and simply back off. Totally lost his man at the back post second half as well when the boy volleyed it over. I’m not saying Taylor was the only player who was poor, far from it. We’ve seen the movie too often with Taylor though at this level. It is actually on Rodgers for going with him over Valle to be fair, and I’ve been Rodgers biggest fan. Engels I can let him away with as I’d have started him last night as well, but in hindsight it should have been Bernardo.

I’m usually one of his biggest fans but not sure I agree mate, his use of the ball was pretty terrible all game, far too quick to go back and some of his 1v1 defending against that Skov Olsen was questionable to say the least. At least 3 times he backed off allowing him to waltz into our box or a dangerous shooting position because he was terrified at getting skinned if he did go and engage.

What I would say in his support I don’t think Maeda helped him much, he looked burst early so just wasn’t getting up and down the way he normally would and Taylor suffered for that defensively but for me he has to be far more aggressive in his defending and actually put a challenge in, can’t allow decent wingers at that level to just waltz 50 yards up the pitch.

Valle made a huge difference and for me looks far more at home at that level, albeit Taylor was brilliant against RB Leipzig.

The problem with Taylor for me is when a good side suss him out early, as Brugge did and don’t allow him to please himself in the middle of the park he can’t revert and play like a more traditional full back because he doesn’t have the pace or physicality. Valle gives us that option albeit he’s not as good in the inverted role as Taylor is.

No offence, mate, but this feels very much like clutching at straws to put a gloss on things for Taylor…

I would agree regarding Maeda, but you seen the difference when Valle come on. Maeda wasn’t doing anything different to when Taylor was on the park, but Valle is just far better when faced with a one v one and can cope with it, whereas Taylor looks terrified.

I defend Taylor more than most, but he was awful against Brugge.

Seems to be the consensus really, don’t think he was that bad. Valle was * quality though.

Aye no doubt any decent to good winger has him on toast 9/10 cause he can’t defend against a bit of pace or trickery which pretty much every single champions league level opponent will have.

It’s a position we desperately need to address cause I can’t see Valle coming here on a permanent otherwise he’d be playing every week.

I don't think he was as bad as being made out either, not great or even good by any means but I've seen a * of a lot worse
