All of that was when he was playing inverted. Which suited him to a tee, and he was outstanding last season. You’re right, you don’t become a bad player overnight, but Taylor was poor as a traditional full back prior to Postecoglou arriving, so it’s no surprise he is struggling now.

Tbf I still think he's probably better on the ball in tight spaces than Tierney is.

But he's nowhere near the level required, especially in this system. I've always maintained that stance. The hyperbole around Taylor last season was ridiculous and G40B rightly called it out a number of times.

I think most, if not all, are tongue in cheek.

Being called the 'greatest left back of all time' not give it away to you?

G40B called it out every time Taylor had a good game, I don't get why it's so difficult to understand that he was clearly being disingenuous.

That guy couldn't even praise him when Taylor was awarded with MOTM.

G40B could've told me the sky was blue and I'd still have to check out the window.

Yeah that one's clearly a laugh. Not all of them but eh. My point is, things got carried away.

I only remember him calling Taylor out after the CL games, it was more calling out hype outside of that. Like people were saying he was PoTY, one of our most valuable players, it was out of hand.

He called him out whenever he got game time. He always had a * for laying into Taylor even when he played well. It was * weird.

I think every man and his dug knew/knows Taylor is limited. Think everyone was having fun by over exaggerating what Taylor is.

Everyone who said he was great last year said that that's still an area of the team that needs to be improved this summer. The point still stands. He is the weakest of the back four and should be what Ralston is to right back - used as cover.

He was definitely in the conversation for player of the year though. I'll die on that hill, and I don't even rate Taylor that highly.

I think it's a bit of revisionism claiming that everyone was kidding on in talking up Taylor. People were arguing quite genuinely that he was one of the best players on the park in those CL games. I'm not saying it's you personally but some supporters get too emotionally invested in players and can't hear anything against them, however valid.

Whatever, we'll all agreed now it can't go on under Rodgers' system. Ideally he can still find a role to play as cover, or in games where we can afford to be on the front foot more.

He was immense for us last season and was rightly praised for his performances, but that was then and this is now.

    New manager new system.

Those are the facts. Not often I don't put in IMHO but Taylor was superb overall last season that is a fact not an opinion of mine. Having said that he was poor last week and today was an absolute nightmare for him. It is clear we need an upgrade at left back. Bernabei has had his chances and he simply cannot defend at all. He is actually pretty decent going forward but an absolute disaster defensively. Taylor is a limited player who should be a good back up option for us like Ralston is at right back. No question we need to find an upgrade there at left back and if possible sell Bernabei as that ship IMHO has sailed.

Imagine coming in here and sticking up for G40B, even tagging him for backup. That is * embarrassing man :56:

Absolutely dreadful performance, looks as if he has lost the basics of how to defend. Time and again, he was exposed.
We need to stop dicking around with this position before it costs us bigtime, Benny is just as poor defensively, so thats not the answer, so make a call on him, dont see the point of loaning him out, may as well punt.

    This.

It's not rocket science. He was poor before Ange arrived and looks equally poor again now.

Even a few occasions under ange when he was properly tested he looked out of his depth. Any player with an ounce of pace and directness and he's done for.

    Another poor half.

No pace, no strength, looks slack on the ball, disinterested. A player who knows his position is nailed.

He's not the answer now. Not in this system.
