Need better, simple. This is who we replaced Tierney with. I like Taylor, be decent as a back up but should not be our first choice full back

He was by and large excellent as an inverted full.

But as an out and out he's a weak point for us.

Worked perfectly in Ange’s system, but as a more traditional full back it won’t work.

Did he pass the ball forward once today? Everything was backwards.

He's done well for us, but we need better in that position.

Agree with others than moving towards a more traditional full back role does not play to his strengths. If we don't replace him, we should keep him playing him inverted.

He seemed to be coming inside a lot in the second half...

Possibly just habit. Think all our full backs are going to have to adjust their game significantly from last year.

Doubt that would really work though, inverted fullbacks were part of Ange's whole system that fit in with the way he wanted the midfield and wide players to operate, if Rodgers has our players overall working differently Taylor inverting without the rest of the system working around it would probably leave us even more exposed at LB.

You could well be right, I'm no master tactician. My understanding though is that some teams will employ a IF on one side (or WB) and play a regular FB on the other side. Like I'm pretty sure we had Tierney playing a more attacking role than Lustig/RBs. There may be reasons why this wouldn't work now. All I know is, Taylor will not shine to the same extent when in a more defensive role.

Going forward the inverted role did suit him but he's always been suspect defensively when stepping up a level. Mainly due to his lack of pace, height and strength. That's not going to change. If we want to do anything at that higher level he's always needed upgraded on.

He is a test of Rodgers' flexibility. Will Rodgers adapt to get the best of him, or will he insist that both full backs bomb forward? We can buy a new LB, but we won't buy two, one of those being homegrown.

I doubt Rodgers wants "both full backs to bomb forward". Our starting full backs during his first reign were Tierney and Lustig. The former was bombing forward at every opportunity. The latter was mostly providing cover for the two centre halves. Rodgers hardly ever used Gamboa who was an attacking-minded option over Lustig.

Regardless of what Rodgers gets out of him going forward he will still struggle defensively against tougher opponents. That should be the yardstick for any new signing. We basically need a LB version of AJ.

I actually didn’t mind him coming forward yesterday but his 1 v 1 defending is atrocious he got done by the Ross County right back yesterday with ease at their second goal. If anyone goes inside him that can run he is done.

Taylor has very good stamina but has no acceleration whatsoever. He is descent on the ball and always gives his all but if we want to kick on we need a better left back.

This. Played well in that system but under Rodgers he’s going to struggle and in turn will be targeted.
