Because, believe it or not, people feel stongly about the team they love remembering people who murdered their fathers and grandfathers, smashed their homes to bits and tortured their uncles and brothers. I'm not talking about the IRA here, I'm talking about the British soldiers of the past, before the provos. We are being forced to watch Irishmen, Germans, Japanese and Scots-Irish parade around with a symbol of British despotism on their chest and we're supposed to just say nothing because their are people who think it's okay.
Well as you can see, a lot of Celtic supporters are exercising their right to protest. A right you seem to want to deny them.

If you knew who I was and what my own family have been through you'd realise I don't need a history lesson on the British army and it's raping and pillaging past. I'm fully aware of the attrocities they cause, the lands they raped and the murdering and slaughter they've commited from the days they ruled the seas with an iron fist to the splitting of neutral countries for their own benefit in recent history.

Again I say it, I deny no one not one single person of their right to oppose something (especially something I myself oppose). What I do have a problem with is them using Celtic and Parkhead as their own political circus. The only thing that is going to happen off the back of that is our club being dragged through the mud backwards and shafted every which way off of the media, neutral football fans and the authorities.

What is the point in it? Go and protest where it matters, Parkhead on a Saturday afternoon when there is a football match on is not it.

    All in my opinion.

    Where's the double standard here?

We've supported the armed forces and soldiers both present and past almost since the day our club was founded. Why the sudden outcry and everyone getting all precious about republicanism?

There were no outcries for the last 120 years, so why now? Are we an Irish republican social club or a British football club?

7 of our player died in WWI, others died in WWII as did many other footballers who went off to war. There memory has to be suddenly forgotten all because a few supporters are getting all precious about republicanism? Do me a favour!

No problem. I'm just annoyed that people are shouting about press getting involved when the whole thing would have attracted less concern if a white poppy was worn. Even a better press. :50:

A sit in 110 and at the 10 minute mark alot of people were tellin the GB to F' Off with others standing up and applauding them.. it was quite weird. Before they walked out there was chants of Go On Home, Sunday * Sunday and Aiden McAnespie.. I never clapped simply for the reason that we have players from Britain's former enemies having to applaud the British Army.. Furthermore, the poppy appeal was first set up by Earl Haig.. who was the Field Marshal for the British army in the 1910's and sent many men to their death while the coward Haig probably never even heard one gunshot.

I really believed celtic wanted to separate politics and football, unfortunately I was wrong. it's ok again to bring politics to the stadium lads.. and that's the main point here.

no wonder with a chairman like that...

I can imagine it was not very kind towards Hinkel (german), Donati (italy) and Nakamura (japan), people who moved on since the ww2 unlike some other nations. no wonder there's still a huge religion and secretarian problem over there on your island if you don't move on.

Neither have we........it's always been a matter of personal choice

And for the guy who said that the Earl Haig was likely a coward I suggest he reads up on the Earl Haig Fund in Wikiepedia....I think he will see that whatever else the man was he obviously wasn't a coward......in fact he refused to countenance the idea of pardoning the 300 who wer shot for cowardice during the war.

I actually agree with this and I believe the problem should never have been put before us but I go to support the team and I want to do what's best for it and the club.

First of all...not every british serviceman has been to ireland.
What about the thousands of service men and women who never held a gun or fired a shot but still lost there life fighting ww1 ww2.
    Doctors/nurses/clergymen....ect ect.
My grandfather fought in africa in ww2 and he never went anywhere near ireland....but you dont want me as a celtic fan to remember him now he has gone or what he did...?
As a football club we are totally differnt from others out there in that we are loved and supported by two sets of fans one in scotland and one in ireland.
We have to learn to live with each others views otherwise the club could be torn apart.Celtic fc will always do things and no matter how they try it will upset one group or the other its a fact of life.
Maybe its time for this forum to have a holiday and close for a week, give everyone time to reflect on what celtic is about and maybe get back to football matters.:97:
