He does have more loyalty, and I hope he's a LB.

mate who cares about loyalty it comes down to Quality not loyalty. I wonder who asked for the bigger wages because they are better players Bassa and Tamas or Loovens, once the board heard that a bet they were quick at jumping to Loovens. yeah his loyalty is not a question but what actual decent club wanted him apart from the huns :97:

Gordon Strachan was quick to point out that the acquisition of Loovens was not intended as a replacement for Caldwell, but part of an overall plan to strengthen the squad.

"If I'd wanted to make sure I got somebody who was far better than Mick or Gary, I'd need to pay fifteen to twenty million pound," said Strachan.

"So that's not going to happen.

"We're buying players that we think we can make better, mould into the team, put pressure on people and claim a place for themselves."

    Where did he say backup??

My thoughts exactly welcome to the site mate.:bbpd:

WGS said before Loovens was on the radar that he would not sign a player to appease the fans. As he only wanted to buy players who improved on what he has.

He now seems to be saying the complete opposite in relation to Loovens not exactly consistent.

P.S,. Dempsey where did he say he would be an automatic first choice and is better than what he currently has?

He has bought a player with potential, like Crosas, McCourt, Samaras, McDonald, Caldwell, Boruc and worked with them, developing them. Whats different with Looven??? Nothing

he didnt say he wasnt good though and to my understanding from what he said he was eluding to him being at least as good as he has . crosas for instance could turn into a world beater for only a pittance fee so that would refute what he said about better being more expensive

when we played cardiff in pre season he looked pretty solid and did have too much trouble dealing with our strikers, but only time will tell if he is worth 3 million...

Its 2.5 according to everything ive read, why dont we stop jumping on the guys back already and judge the guy while hes playing in the hoops, you were all excited bout Graveson he turned out *, you werent too fussed bout a polish goalie named Boruc but turned out in maybe celtics greatest ever squad, why dont we all give him a chance before we bash him?

he did look good in the cardiff match, but aside to that he has had rave reviews from English press in the FA Cup run. Oh and I think its close to 2.5mil, if that softens it at all, like 99p looks nicer than £1.00. Anyway, he more than just potential, he's a bit further on than that. He's ready to challenge for a place judging by his performance, ability and level. Just a case of whether he takes his chance whenever it may come. As someone else rather astute pointed out, Ol' Walt ain't to bad at picking defenders, and the last time we screwed the huns we got wee scotty. lets see it again.

Did anyone really expect Strachan to say, "Aye we bought him so we could get donkey Caldwell to *"?

Keeps our own defenders confidence up, and shows the new guy it won`t be easy here. What`s wrong with that?

Very simple media handling. I dunno what some people were expecting of Looven.

"For 3M, I expected Cannavaro!" LOL
