Just found below this on a Cardiff Message board............

" I am sorry to harp on about this, but our record in league matches in which Glenn Loovens did not play in over the last two seasons reads;-

    P 26 W 2 D 11 L 13 f 24 a 41 Pts 17

This dreadful record has been "achieved" by using the sort of combinations from within the current squad that some are advocating we use now that we have lost the man who I regarded as the most important player in our team.
    "

It seems that Looven is highly regarded by the people that see the most of him. I think until you have seen him play, you cant criticise. It doesnt matter what club he has come from or if he is known to us before hand.

Celtic Scouts have watched him, GS has probably watched him or see enough in depth video analysis of him. He got the thumbs up and Lawwell did his party piece. Thats good enough for me.

Quite a good player i tihnk, saw him a few times last season mainly in the fa cup and he was very good. Motivation wont be a problem either really, he can play very well in the championship and dosnt really lose his concetration and he will be able to motivate himself for the big games

its so much better for us that he snubbed rangers for us, giving us more of a psycological advantage over the skanky mob, i think there spaniard who was playing at a pishy greek team will be total *, and i think this portugese guy wont be much better, looking good for the hoops!

he keeps cardiff in games, there record without him is poor, he is a huge player for them, and a good signing for us! i would love to see us get a LB in this window too, we must match rangers signings with our own counters

GORDON STRACHAN has delivered an astonishing first-team snub to Glenn Loovens - just hours after splashing out £2.5m to * him from Cardiff.
And the Celtic boss has claimed the Dutch defender, who is completing his switch to the SPL from Ninian Park, needs to be five-times better to even break into the Bhoys first-choice back-line.
Strachan has spent the past few weeks courting the 24-year-old, finally getting his man when Bluebirds chairman Peter Ridsdale accepted a bid late on Thursday.
But Strachan has insisted Loovens will be playing second-fiddle to skipper Stephen McManus and Gary Caldwell at Parkhead.
Strachan said: “Loovens is a centre-half, he is decent height and he’s a good player.
“But if I wanted to make sure I got somebody who is far better than Stephen McManus and Gary Caldwell, I would have to pay £15million to £20million and that’s not going to happen.
Strachan: Loovens will not be first choice - WalesOnline

This just makes stronger my fears that Loovens is not signicantly better than what we have.So much for that 'we'll only sign players who are better than what we already have' PR stuff that gets peddled yearly.

FORMER Bluebirds skipper Jason Perry believes Cardiff City can replace Glenn Loovens for a fraction of the £3m they received from Celtic for the defender.
And ex-Ninian Park stalwart Perry insists Bluebirds chairman Peter Ridsdale has struck “a fantastic piece of business” for the club.
With 24-year-old Loovens having just a year left on his contract at Ninian Park and refusing to sign a new deal, the Bluebirds were seemingly left with no option but to cash in on one of their most prized assets.
With the transfer window closing at the end of this month, City were left fearing Loovens might sign a pre-agreement with another club in January and walk away for free next summer.
Celtic have stolen Loovens from under the noses of arch-rivals Rangers and it is believed Loovens was attracted to the Hoops by the lure of Champions League football this season.
Loovens signed permanently for Cardiff in May 2006 from his first club Feyenoord for just £250,000 following a year on loan at Ninian Park.
“I have to say that is a fantastic piece of business by Cardiff,” said Perry.
“No disrespect to Glenn, the Cardiff supporters owe him a big debt of gratitude for his commitment, but you would think Cardiff can replace him for a lot less money than £3m.
“There are people who will argue Glenn will be hard to replace, but I do not agree.
“He was a very committed player, but he was a player who broke things up and I have seen him bullied out of games.
“He and Roger Johnson had struck up a very good partnership, but I believe it is Johnson of the two who would clearly be the bigger loss.
“Johnson has the defensive capabilities, but can also bring you a number of goals in a season too.
“That is what a lot of clubs are looking for and Glenn was never going to do that.”
Loovens had played in both the Bluebirds’ opening games this season: a 2-1 Championship win over Southampton and a 2-1 victory at Bournemouth in the Carling Cup.
But Perry believes the impending move away from the Welsh capital had been affecting the player.
Perry added: “From what I have seen, his head was not quite there at the start of this season. His mind must have been elsewhere with this move in the offing and I suppose you can understand that.”
And, if Loovens has gone to Scotland with Champions League matters on his mind, Perry offered a note of caution.
“Is he of Champions League standard yet? Probably not, to be honest,” he added.
“I don’t think he was ready for the English Premiership, but I think he will do fine in the Scottish Premier.
“The only problem there is that, apart from Celtic and Rangers and perhaps Hearts, what have you got? A number of sides who would struggle in the Championship.”
The sale of Loovens means since his arrival at Ninian Park in May 2005 manager Dave Jones has brought in a remarkable £23.65m from the sale of players.
Earlier this week Ridsdale vowed if Loovens did leave money would be made available to find a replacement.
Trying to find a suitable candidate could prove difficult however. Over the last two seasons, when Loovens has not played, the Bluebirds have earned just two victories.
Loovens deal was ‘good business,’ says Perry - WalesOnline

The one thing in his favour is that the Cardiff fans seem to rate him and I'd say they know more about him than anyone else.

Not exactly good reading or a positive welcome to the club.

You would think we would * up a new recruit not bash him.
