He is absolutely pish. His debut against Falkirk, he was battered by Higdon all game.

This season against Rangers at Ibrox..........he not only let Kenny Miller in once, but TWICE.

I hope someone is stupid enough to come in for him in the summer. Why people moaned about McManus and Caldwell, and wanted them to leave, but nothing was said about Glenda, I will never know

I can only remember 1 o.g., and that was against Arsenal. This guy won 2 league titles in a row. The defence started to * up when Loovens was brought in. Caldwell should have stayed, and that big dutch * should have been sold

What about Aalborg when he scored to let them beat us 2-1.

What about Barcelona when he passed the ball to Ronidinho who gave it to Tiery Henry who toyed with him before scoring by Boruc.

What about his displays for Scotland recently

Then there is the o.g. he scores for Wigan to knock them out of the cup.

I could go on and on with the ones that he got lucky with.

I bet you would find it hard to find a players who you think is not as good as him that has had a many gaffs as him?

I know it's all opinions but Bobo Balde during Strachans reign must've had a hand full of games so to say he was better during that time would be ludicrous. I'm also not going to accept that McManus, Loovens, O'Dea or anyone else during Strachan/Mowbrays time was better than Caldwell. There is a reason McManus is in the Championship and Caldwell in the Premiership. Didn't mention Caldwell sticking Torres in his pocket.

I've always accepted Caldwell wasn't/isn't a fantastic player but trying to make out he wasn't our best defender is deluded.

(and yes I accept everything is opinions but if someone came out and said Cervi is a better player than Boruc, of course they are entitled to that opinion but there is almost nothing to back it up.)

I don't think I am deluded my friend. Caldwell has made more gaffs than any other defender I know in the last five years, you just have to take a look at the above post of mine to name a few.

Aye but nobodies compared him to Bobo and if we're going to go farther and farther back then Valgaeran, MjAllby, Stubbs... there are countless who are better.

But when he was at this club he was our best defender. I don't think there's shame in getting caught out against Barca or an unlucky deflection./rebound against Aalborg. One thing you can say is he never shirked.

Sure he made gaffs (who hasn't) but he was still twice the centre-back of anything we had and his loss at Christmas this year was one of the major contributing factors to throwing away the league. In fact the fall from grace was pretty much immediately from when we lost Caldwell and Robson.

McManus and O'Dea are/have struggled in the Championship where as Caldwell has picked up at least 1 MOTM performance in the Premiership. I think those 3 players have found their respective level.

i never understood all the bashers of caldwell, seemed like they wanted him to make a mistake. he won player of the year last year for a reason.

on topic loovens is better than the 2 that are playing at the moment.

When fit, Loovens is our best centre back in my opinion.

Oh no :97:.................With him being out for a long time,it would be a gamble playing him on a game like this.i dont like this guy and to tell you the truth any game he plays is a gamble

if he does just hope he's up for it or the D.U front line will tear him apart

I rate him. Put it this way, from what we have seen of each centre half he is our best. Thompson is still very raw, O'Dea isn't good enough, Hooiveld hasn't really played same as Rogne (who is also still a kid).

I feel safer with Loovens at the back then any of the other 4.

Thing is though Alsy, O'Dea gets bitched off every centre forward he faces and Thompson is slower than my maw. Things are that bad :54:
