Do you not think the issue was money though?

I think he wanted more money and we decided to flip instead.

If you look at his career GG won’t have made as much money as a player of his quality should have. He was a late bloomer in many respects and it cost him.

Everyone just assumed it’s all about game time. I think he just wanted a big contract to see out his career. Think Rod Tidwell in Jerry Maguire.

In hindsight Celtic probably should’ve given him it, but you can understand the reluctance to give a backup striker £30k+ per week. Ange probably felt he could get a better player at a younger age for that.

Oh was just a second choice in January, not the out-and-out replacement.

Ange would’ve signed someone better in the summer.

As a manager, Postecoglou had success continuously at near every club he's ever managed, before joining Celtic Giakoumakis had a single season of being a striker who actually scores goals...

Giakoumakis clearly ran about with an ego that less about the team and under guys like Ange that * won't fly and quite rightly he was second to Kyogo.

The issue with Giakoumakis was never man management and if his talents were truly so great, the moves open to him wouldn't have been either the MLS or J-League.

A few replies to my earlier posts, sorry lads been a busy one.

You all make some good points there I just think a guy of GG's quality should have been a priority to keep sweet. Doesn't mean you treat him like a * (daft comment that, although I remember many a time myself and plenty others referring to him as Big Zeus :giggle1:), bit he definitely should have been given more game time.

The financial side we're only guessing, but he was worth a wage rise if indeed he was on a below average wage when here. Whether or not he was asking for silly money we'll never know.

But the most important point for me is this; we all want a strong squad of players, some of us actually go bananas if we don't have quality on the bench, berate the club for being unprepared etc etc. But we ain't getting better quality than GG to play backup to Kyogo, not a chance. He was the perfect rotation option.

So basically AP and the club should have been keeping him happy rather than shunning him. It could have been handled a whole lot better and everything else aside, we lost a superb striker out of sheer stubbornness. Extremely poor all round.

We'd be miles infront if he was still here starting or coming on for Kyogo with half hour to go..

Said this watching the game on Saturday see the amount of decent balls come in to the box and we have no one near where they should be.

Giakoumakis wasn’t a superstar but had that something different we needed and character as well to get stuck in that some of the others in our team lack.

Ange's biggest mistake with us, having a guy like Giakoumakis a rotation was perfect.

He wanted to leave, let him leave. The best thing about Ange's attitude, I hope we carry it on. Unfortunately we aren't so hot at the reinvestment part...

He'd have been rodgers no 1. The exact type of striker he uses. Beast.

The rumours at the time was he came in on a low wage with a promise of a new contract if he does well, when the new contract negotiations came up he wanted more than Kyogo was on and thought that was promised to him, we weren’t prepared to do it and Ange was * ruthless with if you’re doubting wanting to be here or not fully focused on us, you’re out the door. Jura and GG two of the best players his first season both got booted because of it.

2 he brought in as experienced players he could rely on for a weirdly small fee and wage. Didn’t * about with guys potentially bringing down the feel of the dressing room wanting away.

Wish he did though, GG would have been fine another 6 months, no issues and the would have Rodgers here and could stake a claim for being the main man - with us being on a spree of contract renewals with wages raising accordingly because footballs moved on from £25k a week being relatively high a wage, it’s now a good league 1 player wage. And some Championship teams * all over it. £25k was the rumoured wage he wanted

    An ego based on what?

He’s one of the most hardworking, most unselfish players I’ve seen play for us.

I was like a * to the fans.

If that alone doesn't highlight that someone is probably rocking an ego... I don't know what else will.

He wanted more money and to be the number 1 above Kyogo and whilst Ange was here... whilst Giakoumakis did show ability... as a squad and team being effective... Kyogo was rightly number 1 as he was more suited to the style that also allowed our wingers to get involved in the goals.

Still * me off that he was effectively shipped out due to wanting either more game time or more money and then Ange jumped ship at the earliest opportunity.

A compromise could of been reached imo.
