PARKHEAD chiefs are eager to offload want-away striker Giorgos Giakoumakis to Urawa Red Diamonds.

The Japanese outfit are deep in talks over a £8m deal for the Greek hitman.

They know there are other clubs interested, with Italians Sampdoria eager to strike an agreement with the Hoops and the player, who finished last season as the Premiership’s joint-top scorer.

But the J.League side hope to land Giakoumakis by tabling him a big-money offer he cannot refuse.

Further discussions are set to take place in the next couple of days, which could see a deal done by the weekend.





The Scottish champions are also likely to finance the move by selling wantaway striker Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Talks over a new deal have stalled and the Greek international looks set for the Parkhead exit door. As Record Sport revealed yesterday, Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds have put a double-your-money offer on the table and are pushing to land him in an initial £4million deal.

Italian side Sampdoria are also keen but that is a loan with an option to buy if they remain in Serie A. There is also interest in Giakoumakis from Major League Soccer, Scandinavia and Russia.

I like GG, but if we got £8 million for him at the age of 28 and replaced him with a much younger Cho for £3 odd million, assuming Cho settles ok and is as good as advertised, that's incredible business.

 

i still dont get why he wasnt used a lot more than he was,i get that kyogo was #1 but there was loads of opportunity to get him a run out. while i think we need a better striker and i guess we will see if this cho (if he signs) is the step up we need but he may find himself in the same position as gg.

 

I'd be happy enough with £4m up front and the possibility of another £4m in the future.

£4 million would still be a profit, and realistically clubs who didn't match or outbid our £2.5 million when he was top scorer of the ererdivisie are not that likely to pay something like £10 million for him now, while he's currently second choice

Sampdoria have found the striker for Dejan Stankovic's squad: Celtic's Georgios Giakoumakis. The player has given his consent to join the Blucerchiati, but other squads are interested.



Japanese side Urawa Reds are also interested in Giakoumakis, even though Sampdoria have an agreement with the Greek striker, but the Italian club has to strike a deal with Celtic. The Blucerchiati have offered a loan with obligation to buy if the club stays in Serie A.



Sampdoria has the advantage over Urawa because the player wants to stay in Europe. Giakoumakis was the top scorer with Venio during the 20-21 season before the Dutch club was relegated. The Greek player has scored 19 goals in 30 appearances with Celtic.

 

Think Ange showed way too much favouritism to Kyogo when he wasn’t performing so well and during that time GG was still benched, I would probably want away also. Think he done well when Kyogo was out injured but got dropped right away again. Like the big man but understand wanting away tbh.
