Gary Caldwell was the best player on the park before his first yellow. Stupid that people want him out.. very very stupid. Who do u all plan to replace him with? solid center backs like him dont come around often..

I wont defend him for Wednesday because both bookings were deserved and * lunacy.

You simply cannot tackle from behind in international football or pull jerseys or you will be booked, he's big enough and ugly enough to know that. All this blaming the ref is just sour grapes.

What I will say is he won me over last season, I was a massive Caldwell-hater up until last season but the guy barely put a foot wrong. In my opinion he improved because he stopped thinking he was Franco Baresi and concentrated on defending.

I think we can afford him Wednesday night, but he needs to get back to basics quickly, I thought he was very shaky in Moscow as well.

Can't agree at all, the first one fair enough you can't come through the back but there is no way a 6 of 1 and half a dozen of another shirt pull deserves a yellow less than 60 seconds after he has been booked already. Yes it shouldn't make a difference when it occurs but it does and if the ref realised it was the same player he wouldn't have booked him which numerous folk have stated already through the press.

It's not sour grapes either as I'd rather Caldwell only played 45 minutes for Scotland, Celtic need him on Tuesday night big time.

He should've known better not to haul at his jersey though and shouldnt have been spinned the way he was by Carew so easily.

Like I say, he's an experienced guy.

You cant base the merit of a booking around timescales of his last booking.

We need Caldwell like a hole in the head for the Arsenal game :31:
The guy is a fucken liabilty and it is in big games like this the Heid
    usually blows a short circuit.

My reckoning is Mowbray will play Loovens and O'Dea for both Arsenal games and punt Caldwell shortly afterwards

the criticism gary gets is unbelievable. he's the only centre half we have who can actually pass the ball and their isnt to many going around just now in our price range to even think about replacing him :31:

Can you name the big games he's made an * of it recently? Because I could counteract that with more games he's either assisted the winner or scored it, numerous times against the huns with inch perfect passes and even the winner against France at Hampden. This is a centre half remember who's main job is to clear his lines.

Your reckoning is completely wrong and if I didn't know better I'd say you were on the wind up. Caldwell will start against Arsenal and if we somehow manage to beat them he'll have played as big a part as anyone. If we sell him we are *, plain and simple.

This is from someone that swore he should never wear a hoops top again after the away game in Benfica years ago. The difference from then to now is it isn't the same player, he has matured into a top drawer ball playing centre half.

I can't believe a few people want to get rid of one of our best players - his career at Celtic started off pretty poorly, but it is testament to his character that he put all the boo boys down to develop into probably our best player last season.

Without him in the centre of defence we really would be in a mess. All players make mistakes at some point, how they deal with those mistakes is what determines what type of player they are.

Caldwell has shown how important he is to our team.

you know what * me off! folk saying caldwell was stupid for the 2nd yellow on wednesday!

why?? carew was booked also and to me should have seen red for the elbow on caldwell anyway?but the 2 players who wer booked i may add wer tugging at each others tops! so... to me the ref either should have let it go? or to of them should have walked! i think the critiscm that heid has taken is * shambolic tbh

Id rather have caldwell at the back than Mcmanus. Wouldnt have said that a couple seasons ago but last season he was outstanding, wins headers and and clears his lines.

As for wednesdays performance, aye it was a stupid foul to concede but carew did have a hold of caldwells shirt first just the ref seen caldwell pull carews shirt :31:

I dont understand this... Why does a shitload of fans want to replace caldwell with O' Dea... Caldwell plays for his country every game and O,dea can barely get on the bench for Ireland... A few weeks ago I bet ya that they wanted Loovens out of the team for O'Dea... Bit strange i would think...

For me - Caldwell is a much improved player from his first season; although not as improved as he thinks himself.

As for the tugging the jersey - he does it quite a lot - he might get away with it in the SPL but he was found out against Norway. We're talking about a professional player who should know better, just booked 60 seconds ago - tugging the jersey of a forward. What was he thinking?

When it comes to a central defender does Caldwell even come close to, or could polish the boots of...

    MacNeill
    Elloitt
    McCarthy
    Mowbray

    No.

It's like trying to get a half decent job done now in any trade.

    A total gamble.

Caldwell gambled and lost. Impostor, liability, passenger.
