What does O'Dea have to offer that Caldwell doesn't?

 

For a start mate he is dependable and reliable unlike Rent a Quote Caldwell

Have you forgot how good Darren was in the San Siro and against Rangers last year in the League Cup Final. Any time he has come into the team in a competitive game he has never let us down. O'Dea gives his all for Celtic and his heart is in the right place. He and Loovens are the best CB partnership at the club IMHO.

Some of the muppets on here will still be defending Captain Calamity after
he has cost us our CL place and terminally damages our SPL prospects

Darren gave some good games, but that doesn't guarantee him spot in first team. He still has a lot to learn, even if it means to learn from Caldwell's mistakes.

As for being Celtic boy, I assume that you mean he's Celtic through and through. That's true. But how do you know Heid isn't?

Best partnership... I still think Calamity, as you call him, is better paired with Loovens. And I myself am a 'muppet' defending our best CB who is, obviously, going through a rough patch. Show some support, he needs it.

I and others do not need to support someone who is the obvious weak link in the team. We are talking about the prosperity and good of the club here.

If you are off form and committing regular clangers like Caldwell is now doing you should be benched

I would like to make 2 points regarding your statement.

2. What does it it say about the rest of our squad.

caldwell is better than odea and should remain in the side. however the fact remains that caldwell is a blundering idiot and his mistakes are avoidable.

 

But what if that weak link that should be benched is our captain and a good team player? And what if that player may contribute a lot to the team after his rough period is gone?

And if Mowbray keeps playing someone who is a weak link and is a detriment to the team, then he may find himself being the next person coming in for big stick for having poor judgement or even showing favoritism to an off form player who has become a liability

i thought this was a celtic suporters site why slagging our own players. caldwell has been class for the last eighteen months. give the guy abreak one mistake and hes getting slaughtered.

He's a liability on the big stage, but which one of our CBs isn't? (OK, maybe Loovens... but he hasn't exactly been given the chances to * up the big stage yet.)
Here is how this goes.... "McManus is horrible!! Total liability on the big stage! Get him to *!!" ... now it's "Caldwell is horrible!! Total liability on the big stage! Get him to *!!" ... in 6 months it'll be "Loovens is horrible!! Total liability on the big stage! Get him to *!!"... in 1 year it'll be "O'Dea is horrible!! Total liability on the big stage! Get him to *!!"

Then we'll be left with Zander Diamond transfer rumors and bringing Elvis and Bobo back in their 40s. Yeah, real improvement there.

It says a lot about the people clamoring for O'Dea that the only positive thing they can talk about was a game we lost 2 seasons ago. He looks like he's currently our 3rd-choice CB, which means he should get plenty of time on the pitch this year to prove that he is also a liability to all the people who agonize over every single goal scored against Celtic.
As far as captaincy... the only thing I didn't like about it is if the manager feels that player becomes undroppable, like McManus and Strachan. I don't know Mowbray well enough to know if he thinks the same way -- but if he doesn't, I couldn't give a * if Caldwell is captain or not. (Ultimately, I'd prefer Artur to be captain -- as he is easily one of our best and might also force him to grow up a bit and act more like a role model.)

big calamity should be dropped, he's becoming a liability . in the SPL you're fooled into believing he's not that bad, in europe it's a different story.

He's a hibs quality player - always has been, always will be.
