Georgios Samaras

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by donnegal celt, Jul 17, 2011.

  1. Sammy dosen't get a good enough run in the team to reach top form he's always on the bench play's one game then he's dropped again he needs a good run of game's the guy's obviously got talent and why does Lennon put him left mid sometimes. I think Samaras has been very unlucky at Celtic he showed what he was capable of in the first few season's he was here.

  2. i think he has been very lucky. he got 3 more years of big money on the back of one performance.

the sooner this man leaves CP the better.

  3. I wonder what Murphys goal return would have been if he was given as much game time as samaras??

  4. it would depend how many PKs we got when he was playing

  5. Samaras isn't going anywhere. Sammy has told the club he has no interest in moving Clubs. He'll see out every minute of that new 3 year contract he signed in January.

  6. link?

  7. I sincerely hope this is not true, I wish the guy no ill will but in my eyes the guy will never be as good as we need him to be on a consistent basis.

  8. It is true. Saint Etienne made an enquiry about Samaras and were told that the player had no interest in moving. Samaras likes life in Glasgow and has no interest in changing clubs.

i'm pretty sure that's cause he drifts wide left a lot when playing up front and he's big strong and got a bit of pace, so lennon plays him wide and brings on another centre forward :50:

  10. Dont you think though that Sammy was a decent player for Strachan? His goals return was acceptable then and he scored a lot more goals with his head, seemed to get into the box more.

I think one problem is Lenny is trying to play a pass the ball into the net style. That doesnt suite Sammy. Sammy was a lot better when we were bombarding the box with crosses from Naka, McGeady, Robson etc.

IMO we dont have the personnel to pull the pass the ball into the net style off except if its St. Mirren etc. I have seen a number of Celtic teams try and play this style and it has never worked when it comes to the crunch against stronger teams and winter pitches.

  11. No.

Arguably his worst ever run of performances in a Celtic jersey came under Strachan in the final 6 months of the failed 4IAR season. Add in the team talk he gave to the huns before the title deciding final day, and it was an absolute disaster of a run for Samaras. His form then was a major factor in us being unable to do 4IAR.

  12. Still score 17 goals that season despite injury and loss of form later in the season. His complete inability to score is something that has come on slowly. When he arrived on loan the scored 6 goals mainly off the bench. I think he had a lot more goals in him then.

Thats a fair argument, until you actually see him play, if he played better under Strachan then he should be playing better under Lennon as he changes the team to suit him.

Its not so much the goals that frustrates , its his all round play. Running up blind alleys, inability to link up, picking the wrong pass, spinning in a circle and running away from goal etc. These are things that you cant simply put at the current managers feet.

  14. Hammy. for one that has got a Avatar, that's making you look dumb. i am beginning, to think, you can now understand the written text, :52:

whatever the cause though there has definately been a gradual drop off from a level of goals return in his first season and a half to unnaceptable levels in the last couple of years. He seems to play deeper now and seems to be rarely in the box. He definately used to be in the box more.

I agree with you, his fall in form has been a slow decline in not only goals, but overall performances. Its amazing because I honestly dont ever feel like he is going to score when he plays now. And its not even questioned. Hooper or Stokes go a couple of games and they are hung out to dry, but with Sammy?

  16. The problem with Samaras is that nobody is quite sure what his position is, I doubt even Samaras knows for sure. When he first came to us with Strachan he was scoring goals, some really delightful goals with his head and feet, but it is true to say the goals dried up in Strachan's last six months, but the same could be said for both Skippy and Big Jan, we hit a drought then, and hence the interest in Stephen Fletcher, we will never know for sure if we would have won 4IAR with Fletcher, but there is no doubt in my mind, he ( Fletcher ) would have scored more than those three did in the last six months. Personally I don't think Sammy has been the same since he got that injury under Strachan, and then missed two sitters against some European team away from home ( can't remember who it was but we got beat as usual :56:)

It's definitely a confidence thing for me with Sammy, as he is a confidence player, and he does love to run the channels, that I do know, so maybe left midfield would suit Sammy better than striker.

Thats a fair point Doc, perhaps he hasnt been the same player since his injury under WGS. However there isnt a place for him in the left hand side of midfield, or any other part of midfield. With Commons, Forrest and Ledley able to play there its a non starter.

For me there is no place in the team for Sammy, i must admit i get tired of hearing that he's a confidence player or he just needs more time etc, he needs to go and the sooner the better.

  19. I,d keep Sammy and get rid of Maloney.Hopefully Wigan do us a favour and take him off our hands.
