It’s been a while since the last post, so I thought I’d do another one.

1666: Amsterdam

So this one’s a little different from the usual updates, but it’s an interesting little story that I thought would be worth sharing. 1666 although perhaps not a particularly well known title, gained some notoriety over the years due it being the focus of a legal battle between Ubisoft and a man called Patrice Désilets.

Désilets was previously employed by Ubisoft and is perhaps best known for creating the Assassins Creed series for them, although he would later leave during Assassins Creed: Brotherhood’s development (2010). A year or so later THQ set up a studio in Montreal and hired Désilets to create a new IP for them, which would eventually turn out to be 1666: Amsterdam. Now, if you follow gaming industry news, you’ll know that THQ ran into massive financial difficulties which ultimately resulted in their closure and the sale of their various assists (IP’s & studios mainly). In January 2013 Ubisoft won an auction to buy this Montreal studio (which also granted them the rights to the 1666 IP) and Désilets was once again an Ubisoft employee. However by May Désilets had been sacked by Ubisoft and they now had complete ownership of 1666. Over the next few years Désilets set up his own independent studio and would later take Ubisoft to court regarding the 1666 IP. Last month he reach and settlement with Ubisoft who agreed to return the IP to him.

Now there seems to be some debate why Ubisoft were so keen on this IP, despite the fact they basically never did anything with it. Basically, if you believe the rumours, it was due to the fact the game was originally intended to be a competitor to the Assassins Creed series and Ubisoft didn’t want another publisher getting their hands on it. Désilets actually released some old developmental footage, so you can see what might have been:

Batman: Return to Arkham

Warner Bros. have announced Batman: Return to Arkham which contains remastered editions of Arkham Asylum & Arkham City. Here's the announcement trailer:

CD Projekt Red

One of the co-founders of the studio has revealed that they'll be announcing something at E3 in an interview with Eurogamer:

There are whispers and speculation but I can tell you Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely not be at E3 this year. That comes from the horse's mouth: CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwinski himself.

"It might happen that we will be at E3 and we will show something at E3, but I just want to make it clear it's not Cyberpunk," he told me at Polish conference Digital Dragons recently. "We still have a lot of work to do with Cyberpunk."

I believe what CD Projekt Red will announce at E3 will be the game - or thing - it mentioned in a recent annual report. Under plans for 2016, CDPR mentioned, "A new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio." That doesn't necessarily mean it's a game and doesn't necessarily mean it's coming out this year. But it could be both.

When I asked Iwinski if it will be this thing at E3 he said, "We will see." When I asked if we'll find out what it is at E3 he said, "Well, hopefully." And when I asked if it had anything to do with The Witcher he said, "Time will tell."

Most people seem to think it'll either be a standalone Gwent game and/or a Game of the Year Edition for the Witcher 3.

Dead Don't Ride

So if you've read this thread before, you might remember me mentioning a guy called Shinobi602 in relation to leaked games (mainly Call of Duty & * of War 4). Well he's now claiming to know something about an unannounced game being developed by Sony's Bend studio.

It's pretty much an open secret at this point that they're developing an open world horror game for the PS4, but that's really all that's known about the project. However this Shinobi guy posted a Tweet that seems to reveal the name of the game, Dead Don't Ride, as well as a hint to what the game might be about.

So it sounds like it could be some sort of zombie apocalypse, mixed in with a bit of Mad Max. Most people seem to think it's a stick for E3, so we might see an official reveal in a couple of weeks.

Destiny

An image posted on Reddit apparently leaked an as of the yet unannounced DLC/expansion called 'Rise of Iron'

Kotaku have apparently confirmed its authenticity, and they have a good track record with Destitny related stuff, and have also reported that it includes a new raid. Although they don't know whether it's a smaller DLC or an expansion (like The Taken King).

Dishonored 2

There's been a bunch of new details released via a Gameinformer article. Someone summarized it here, but I've more or less copied it here.

Visually the game pretty much looks like a more detailed version of the last

There's no co-op, as they weren't sure how to implement it

The game runs on a modified version of idtech5 they've dubbed The Void Engine.

The game takes place 15 years after the original.

After the events of the first game, Corvo was concerned that at some point, people would attempt to assassinate Emily. As such, he spent said 15 years training her how to be a magical assassin like him whenever she wasn't too busy being Empress.

The game starts out with you playing as Emily during a coup d'etat and having to escape.

Afterwards, you choose whether to play as Emily on her quest to reclaim her throne, or as Corvo with the same objective.

The game starts and ends in Dunwall, but the rest of the game takes place in Karnaca, which is inspired by Mediterranean European countries and is the birthplace of Corvo.

The plot setup for how missions works sounds pretty similar. There's some public figure doing bad things and you get information/help from other characters to help in your goal of taking them down.

The guards are a lot smarter this time and can also do things like vault around and scale objects to chase you.

Emily has a new set of powers. Far Reach is this giant hand grappling hook thing that pulls you around. It's like blink, except you actually physically move across spaces, so guards can notice you. Far Reach can also be used as a weapon by swinging around environment objects.

The game is a lot more vertical so these movement abilities are especially important.

You can do non-lethal aerial takedowns.

Missions have various options for completion and progression throughout, much like the previous game.

You can use guards as human shields.

Non-lethal/stealth options have been expanded quite a bit to be more up to par with the amount of lethal options.

Another one of Emily's abilities is Mesmerize, which stuns multiple guards temporarily.

You can puts guards into beds to avoid suspicion.

There's a bunch of difficulty sliders for things like how visible you are in cover.

There's quick saving/quick load in all versions of the game now along with checkpoints so you don't risk losing much progress at any given time.

Another of Emily's powers is Domino. You link up to four guards together, and then whatever happens to one guard, happens to the rest. For example, if you link four guards, and then lead one into a stun mine, all four are stunned.

This also works with Doppelganger, where you create a clone of yourself, then link it to the guards, and blow up your own clone.

Emily also has the Shadow Walk ability which lets her slink into shadows and squeeze into tight places.

Some of the missions have neutral areas where you can go around and talk to the various citizens to get a feel for the city and hints toward your mission.

Your base of operations is a boat.

Detective Vision returns.

Both Emily and Corvo have a pistol, sword, and crossbow, but they look different. Also they have different end game upgrades to the items.

Corvo has the same powers as the last game, but they're upgraded and expanded.

Corvo is voiced by Garrett from Thief

Corvo's Bend Time ability can now also fast forward time.

Corvo's possession ability can now be chained between creatures.

The abilities now unlock in a tree.

Corvo's blink can assassinate someone through a glass window starting at level 1.

The mansion from the trailer is an interlocking puzzle level where you pull levers and open new areas and all sorts of stuff like that.

The clockwork soldiers are now wood instead of porcelain.

They're trying to improve the ending and morality systems in comparison to the last game.

The game will be released on the 11th November for PC, PS4 & Xbox One

A French website is claiming that a sequel to Injustice:Gods Among Us, the DC fighting game, is currently in development and is set to be released in May 2017. The full thing can be read here (it turns out all those years of French at school didn’t do me much good here), but to sum it up they’re basically saying that an insider source told them to either expect an announcement during E3 or just before.

Netherealm seem to be done with Mortal Kombat X anyway, and with the Justice League movie coming out next year, it would probably be a decent time to release it. I think a pre-E3 reveal is most likely, seeing as Warner Bros. won’t be having their own show. They have a good relationship with Sony (as they’ve show with the Arkham series) but they’ll probably still be pushing Street Fighter V, and I think the rumoured Suicide Squad game is more likely to appear during their conference in all honesty.

Take-Two, owner of both Rockstar and 2K, has registered a trademark for a game called Judas.

At the moment, the evidence seems to suggest that the next game Rockstar announce will be something Red Dead related. However, there's apparently a user on a popular forum, gtafroum.com, called Fun De Panda who has apparently gained a reputation over the years for accurately leaking details of various Rockstar projects. He's claiming that Rockstar will be releasing two games in 2017, one will be Red Dead 3 and the other will be something new.

Kotaku are reporting that Bethesda will re-reveal Prey 2 at their E3 show. It's actually mentioned in the comment section but here's what they said:

All I’ve heard is that they’re announcing it at E3! I’m not 100% sure, though. I do know it’s code named Danielle and under development at Arkane Austin. And this is a totally new Prey 2 (it might even be called something else now), not the one we saw in 2011 from Human Head."

Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7 is set to be revealed at E3 according to a guy called Serkan Toto, who's heavily involved with the Japanese gaming industry. Here's what he said on Twitter:

1) About Resident Evil 7: Yes, it's in development. The entire game will go back to RE's horror roots and (essentially) be a clean slate.

2) They will show it at E3. The RE7 team hired Jordan Amaro, a designer who previously worked on MGS V and P. T. at Kojima Productions. /end

Sony Western Game

So this is yet another potential leak regarding an unannounced Sony game, but this one seems to be a bit of a mystery. Basically there's a website called ArtStation that a lot of artists use, particularly those who work in the gaming industry, to post pieces of art that they've been working on.

Someone was apparently looking through this website when they came across some concept art depicting a Wild West setting, which according to the user who posted it, is for an unannounced Sony project. Here's the images in question:

People have done some digging on the guy who did these, and he's apparently done some work for a Sony VR game in the past. That's not to say that this game will be a VR game, but I thought it would be worth mentioning.

Titanfall 2

A user on Reddit has leaked an image & some details about Titanfall 2

Here's the post:

I've been sitting on some Titanfall 2 information that was shared with me, and I've finally got the go ahead to post.

Titanfall 2 will release in October and the Mountain dew leak is indeed legitimate. They've added a ton of new pilot abilities including the addition of a grappling hook. My source said you can use it quite extensively, for getting into your Titan, aiding free-running, or tactical plays such as pulling enemies while they're midair. The pre-order bonus will be a handgun called the Violator. Multiplayer maps are bigger which I can assume they upped the player count to go along with them.

Trials of the Blood Dragon

A listing on the Taiwenese Ratings Board website has revealed the existence of a Ubisfot published game called ‘Trials of the Blood Dragon’

The ‘Trials’ part of the title, and the accompanying image on the listing, pretty much confirms that this is going to be either an expansion or a new entry in the Trials series. The interesting part though is the ‘Blood Dragon’ mention. Some of you may remember the Far Cry spinoff Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon which was basically a parody of 80’s action movies. Ubisoft will probably show it off during the E3 conference most likely.

WatchDogs 2

Nerdleaks, has apparently found an image that appears to show the protagonist of the upcoming sequel. A post on Instagram by a motion capture actor mentioned that he been working on WatchDogs 2, and it included a picture of a new character styled similarly to the protagonist of the original game:

E3 might still be a few days off, but that hasn't stopped some publishers & developers from doing early announcements.

Agent

Some of you may remember this game from the early PS3 days, but Take Two has once again renewed the trademark for Agent.

For anyone not familiar with the the title; Agent was basically a Rockstar developed, PS3 exclusive, spy thriller set during the Cold War. It basically vanished after it's initial reveal nearly ten years ago, but Take Two seem to continue to renew the trademark whenever it's close to lapsing.

It'll probably amount to nothing, but who know's, maybe this will finally be the year Agent returns to E3.

Agents of Mayhem

Volition, the developers behind the Saints Row & Red Faction series, have announced thier new game today 'Agents of Mayhem'. First off, here's the cinmeatic trailer:

Some details from IGN, who partnered with Volition for the game's reveal:

As you can see, Agents of Mayhem is in keeping with Volition’s modern design ingredients: an urban landscape, lots of open-world action, and a touch of the whimsical. As the trailer hints at, you play a squad of three agents, and use their unique skills in tandem to beat back the bad guys; which isn’t to say you’re necessarily controlling the “good” ones. Though they’re definitely a lot nicer than the mustache-twirling megalomaniacs of L.E.G.I.O.N., the agents of M.A.Y.H.E.M. aren’t exactly heroes with a capital “H” either, which is part of their charm. Imagine letting the Suicide Squad loose in a futuristic version Seoul, Korea and you’ve got one foot in the ballpark.

So it's an exclusively single-player open-world action game featuring characters with cool guns, gadgets, and abilities to toy around with. There’s...a lot more to it than that though. What’s the connection, if any, to the Saints Row universe, what are you actually doing minute-to-minute, and what kind of characters can you play as? All will be answered in time.

Dead Rising 4

It appears as though Dead Rising 4 has leaked ahead of an official reveal at Microsoft's E3 show.

To start with, here's some alleged leaked images:

Two days ago we reported that Dead Rising 4 is in development at Capcom Vancouver and may, or may not, have an exclusivity deal and that Dead Rising 4 will indeed feature at this year’s E3 and will “make fans of the series happy”. Today, we can update that with images that have surfaced that might give us our first look at Dead Rising 4.

Dead Rising 3 was released in 2013 as an Xbox One exclusive as well as a launch title. It was said to have sold very well, and a Dead Rising 4 was talked about not long after the release. It’s also likely that Capcom Vancouver is ditching the engine they built in favor of a partnership with Epic Games, meaning that the studio will be working exclusively with the Unreal Engine 4 from here on out.

The game is rumoured to be a complete remake of the first game with co-op added as well as online functionalities. Fans of the franchise might also recognize Frank West in the first image, lending itself to the veracity of these images. As always, we’ll update this article as and when we hear more on the game.

Update 2: New information has emerged that the game will come to Windows 10 PC alongside the Xbox One release as a Windows Store exclusive. Frank West will mark his return as the protagonist, but Capcom Vancouver also added a four player co-op allowing three friends to join the frantic action playing as previous characters from the game such as Chuck, Nick and Annie.

I cant' remember the where I read it, but there was a rumour doing the rounds a week or so ago that Microsoft were going to be showing off an exclusive zombie game at their show. That website are also reporting that State of Decay 2, another zombie series, will also be revealed.

Destroy All Humans

This one will probably amount to nothing, but I used to be really into this back in the PS2 days. The Product Development Director/Executive Producer of Nordic Games (who bought the Destroy All Humans IP, and many more, when THQ were liquidated) had this to say on Twitter regarding the future of the series:

It would be nice to see the original two remastered at least, I used to play them all the time.

The biggest takeaway from this trailer is that the game will be running on the Frostbite Engine. This is the engine DICE (the developers of the Battlefield series, Mirrors Edge and the recent Star Wars: Battlefront reboot) created, and its more or less became EA's go to engine for all their games at this point.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Sony have apparently decided to release a new trailer for Horizon today, alongside the announcement of a release date and various editions of the game.

There's a short article on the official Playstaiton blog, which can be read here, but the jist of it is that the game's been delayed until 2017, and will release on the 1st March here in the UK

As you can see in the trailer, we’ve decided to push the release date for Horizon Zero Dawn to February 28, 2017. It wasn’t an easy choice to make; we know many of you have been anxious to play the game since we first announced it. However, we also want to ensure that Horizon Zero Dawn lives up to the visuals and gameplay quality that our games are known for. I only played through Watch Dogs recently myself, and I agree with you about its potential, but there's so much they need to approve on. The writing was dreadful, they never really did anything particularly interesting with the hacking abilities, Chicago was dull to explore and was packed to brim with the usual Ubisoft filler content.

If the developers have genuinely taken the criticism of the first game on board, and made efforts to address it, then it could be a pretty good game.

Agree with that. Chicago was a boring place and Aiden Pearce was a boring character, I thought T-Bone from the Bad Blood DLC was a far better character to play as. The filler content was pretty bad, the Bad Blood DLC had 60 street sweep side missions with about 4 very minor variations, I got bored after 20 :smiley-laughing002:

I think Watch Dogs 2 will be a far better game, most games like that tend to get better with each sequel.

Agree with that. Chicago was a boring place and Aiden Pearce was a boring character, I thought T-Bone from the Bad Blood DLC was a far better character to play as. The filler content was pretty bad, the Bad Blood DLC had 60 street sweep side missions with about 4 very minor variations, I got bored after 20 :smiley-laughing002:

I think Watch Dogs 2 will be a far better game, most games like that tend to get better with each sequel.

A few people have said that it could be similar to the jump from Assassin's Creed to AC2, the first was okay and then the sequel was fantastic. In saying that, I really like AC1.

But as you said, this franchise has a lot of potential. An interesting protagonist would go as long way in improving the game.

San Francisco which has been rumoured for a while has been pretty much confirmed to be the city Watch Dogs 2 is set in, IGN put up some promo shots of WD2, one featuring the Golden Gate Bridge. IGN has since taken them down.

I think it will be similar to the jump with AC. People forget that open world games usually take two or three games to get really good. GTA is an example where the jump from 3 and Vice City to San Andreas was huge, it just takes a while for the devs to open up the games potential.

A sequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order

Although they don't mention in it in the Eurogamer article, its probably worth pointing out this interview that was conducted just before Fallout 4's release:

Bethesda instead viewed a longer development time frame – one that allowed the team to properly gather data before starting development on the new hardware. When I visited Bethesda Game Studios last month, Todd Howard and other key members from the development team walked me through Fallout 4's creation. Early on in our talks, Howard smiled at me and said, "The first thing we did was port Skyrim to Xbox One." After a brief pause, he quickly blurted out, "Don't get your hopes up yet."

This was strictly an exercise that allowed the team to understand the new hardware faster. Although Howard implied there's a chance of Skyrim coming to Xbox One with his "yet," I was led to believe there wasn't anything brewing at the moment.

The official DC Instagram is hinting that a new game has suggested that a new DC related game will be revealed on Thrursday.

Meanwhile, Ed Boon, (the man behind both the Mortal Kombat series, and the original Injustice game) has changed his Twiter image to a picture of a Roman Numeral 'II'

Injustice 2 is currently heavily rumoured to be announced in the coming days.

I've mentioned it a couple of times recently, but it appears that Injustice 2 is now all but confirmed.

According to Polygon, someone working for Gamestop (the US equivalent of Game pretty much) is claiming that stores are being sent posters of the game which are apparently going to be included as some sort of pre-order incentive.

Here's the image of said poster and a bit of the Polygon article (the full thing can be read here):

A helpful tipster sent along to Polygon what appears to be a shot of a promotional poster for Injustice 2 featuring The Flash and Batman with the tagline "Every battle defines you."

In a letter sent to Gamestop managers, and also shared with Polygon, corporate tells local stores they are sending along the posters, which are free with pre-orders for the still unannounced game.

The posters are only available while supplies last, according to the tipster.

There is no word on what platforms the title is coming to, but it's possible one of the placeholder entries in the GameStop computers for a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One title is for the game.

The Watch Dogs 2 reveal trailer has leaked ahead of the official reveal at 5pm. Ubisoft are getting the videos taking down pretty quickly, so this one might not stay up long:

Hope that first person shot is just a one-off. Not keen on that trailer at all. Looks like they've went too far the other way - the first game was quite dull and boring, this one seems too 'wacky' based on the trailer.

That seems to be the general consensus at the moment. I don't mind games being a bit silly, like the Saints Row series, but there's a very fine line between genuinely funny and LOL Random/ try hard humour.

Also apologies to anyone who can't watch the trailer now, Ubisoft have already had it taken down.
