Gary Mackay-Steven

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by AJ Styles, Oct 17, 2015.

  1. Would loan him to Hearts or Aberdeen or the condition that he can't play against us in the league or cup.

  2. I'd keep him until the end of the season, but overall I haven't seen enough from him since his return from injury that would suggest he has a future here. Just not effective enough on a consistent basis. Wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot at Hearts or Aberdeen as mentioned above, although I would let him go permanently, not on loan.

Don't think he needs a 'nasty streak' just confidence. He's got the skill on the ball but needs to be more direct and ruthless in his decision making. Unfortunately I don't think he'll get the game time here to improve so maybe a loan is the best way to get the confidence back.

    Good SPL player though.

CELTIC are set to knock back a loan bid from Dundee United for Gary Mackay-Steven.

Tannadice boss Ray McKinnon had targeted the club’s former winger in the hope of adding more creativity to his squad for the rest of their Championship campaign.

However, Mackay-Steven managed to play himself back into Brendan Rodgers’ first team in December and isn’t going anywhere.

McKinnon refused to talk specifically about the 26-year-old but did admit he was hunting for a creative spark.

He said: “I am looking for somebody who is going to unlock defences and contribute with goals as well. We want a bit of flair and creativity along with a goalscorer.”

  5. Ross County & Dundee also asking about his availability

He's not going to get game time here. Sinclair, Forrest and Roberts are all ahead of him. Plus, he just isn't good enough.

  8. I genuinely don't care if they play him against us. He's never hurt us before. In fact there is literally nothing he could do in the SPL to convince me he's good enough for us except play well against us

Too much of a shitebag to make it here.

  12. Can't help but think Brendan might be taking the classy route there (which I like). Said the same thing about Scott Allan in the summer and he was off soon after, not saying the same thing will happen with GMS but I can't see him getting gametime, not to mention I don't think it's unfair to say he hasn't really made much of an impact since getting fit.

  13. he's not really had much of a chance tbh since coming bak ,i see him more as a right sided mid like rogic and he will prove as good as armstrong as a signing .

GMS could be a decent player in the CL qualifiers and good back up from the bench. On his game he is tricky but would be more suited to European football as a light breeze can knock some off the ball. Especially when Portuguese.

  15. I thought he'd have been away on loan by now but maybe Brendan see's a player in there that he wants to keep as a part of his squad. I personally thought his time was up as he's came up short countless number of times whenever he's been given a chance and he's had a few injuries. He's a player that needs an arm around him at times when things aren't going right for him and with Brendan that's what he'll get, when he's confident he's a really good player, we seen that at Dundee United. So maybe there's time yet, I really do hope so.

I think Rodgers is just being 'nice' about it all.

I'd be shocked if he saw him as a big part of his long term plans.

He may stay until the summer but only as a potential stop gap and squad player.

He's very rarely shown that same type of flair here though.

I think he is/has played within himself barring one or two spells of form.

  20. He was actually one of our better players last season, scoring quite regularly too

Hes not the best but not one I think we need to get rif of at the moment
