It isn't gonna click for him though..

He's been ready since December yet has done heehaw but regularly fluff any chances he had..

Don't want to be that guy but a few of us have been voicing our concerns more and more recently because he's been the step in player, and for me he just hasn't got it..

I'll be disappointed if he get's a shot even from the bench again this season, over say an academy player..

    Brendan's comments on GMS's performance-

Rodgers said: “Bless him, young Gary worked
    very hard.

“But he could have been playing for the next 10 hours!

“Sometimes you get games like that when it is just not going right.

“You have a choice as a manager, you either keep him on and see if it changes or you make a change.

“I thanked him for working hard, but I said it was not his day.

“When you have able people on the side to freshen things up like Patrick Roberts — who is an outstanding talent — you let him see if it’s his day.

“It ended up he came on, and we had that planned if maybe it wasn’t going how we wanted.

“Leigh can also come in and get goals and provide a threat, and it worked well for us in the second half.

“The game needed them. I know what their qualities are, and what they can bring to the game.

" Bless Him " .Brendan is the Silent Assassin. He used the exact same words when describing Ambrose.

What it aso says about BR is that his man management skills are also very good. Couldn't imagine WGS when he was the manager being quite so diplomatic, for example.

I don't think he's * but he has zero confidence at the moment, shame because last season he was actually playing quite well

Guy was all over the place & not in a good way. Honestly played like he was wearing wellies. He couldn't stay upright, was actually bizarre how many times he ended up sliding on his *. I think he managed to header a St Mirren players knee at one point. Felt sorry for him as he was clearly eager to make an impression but he was utter garbage. Think there's a player there but has zero confidence & unfortunately for him, when you get a chance in this team you really need to be taking it & I think he's blown it.

Good enough squad player with confidence.

Doesn't have the confidence and was dreadful yesterday because of it.

He looked like one of the guys that work in the Superstore and blagged his way onto the pitch yesterday

I think theres been a total over reaction to his performance and i know i constantly find myself defending him but i think its a fine margins kind of thing if certain things just start to click with him hes a very dangerous player to have and certainly a good enough squad player, his tracking back and winning the ball back has been superb but just needs to be a bit more deadly when he does get the ball back and he showed yesterday hes no shitebag putting his head in nd receiving a boot to it.. far from finished for me but has to do something in his next one or two appearances should he get them or id say that will be him gone in the summer

Give him a break - in the first half EVERYTHING that we did that was good went through GMS.

He made himself available and got himself into great positions. He just lacked confidence in his final action.

And lets not forget that there were plenty of players who were anonymous or sub-par in that first 45.

I get why BR took him off as that Scottish Cup fixture was a must win. But there's a player in there - hopefully he gets a run in a few league matches and if folks get off his back for a while, then maybe we'll see him prove it.

I agree , the falling on his * all the time is getting annoying a bit and I can understand why people are slating him a lot , but he needs support just now and am willing to give him time , he needs a goal , even going in on goal against at mirren , he telegraphed his shot , but his body position was to much for the speed and it put him down again ,just needs a break and it will click , he can be a good player if things go for him .

If only he would try use his right foot, could have had a hattrick yesterday. Won the ball in dangerous areas like 3 times as well.

If he had been more effective then the forst 45 wouldn't have been seen as sub par.

Everything good we did broke down because of GMS. His first touch was terrible, he kept slipping, his passing was off, he bottled a great chance, he didn't lift his head when we were 4v3 and ran into a St Mirren player.

    He was absolutey *.

Hard to bet against Brendan Rodgers but I doubt even he can turn Gary Mackay-Steven into a Celtic player. Physically weak, a bit of a fairy, inconsistent, and not really cut out for playing for a club of this size. Sell in the summer.

He probably needs a manager to slap him about the dressing room and waken him up. A Stein, Lennon, Souness, Walter Smith type who'd call him out on the wee shitebag that he is and tell him to get a grip of himself. He's good technically and naturally skillful and quite a clever player but weak, a shitebag just total powderpuff and scared to put his mark on a game. He'd probably actually bottle it and go into his shell even more if a manager got tore into him, just not built for pressure football.

I get why people want to defend the guy and I don't like seeing players get a hard time either.

He just had, as Brendan said, one of those days. But for me, even the way he half-heartedly 'tried' to stop the cross for their goal was below par.

There is a player in him, of course there is, and I wouldn't put it past him to put in a great performance if given another chance. Problem is you're under a * of a microscope as a Celtic player, and he's compared to Paddy or Rogic now as opposed to Danny Swanson and Ryan Dow. He still hasn't quite been able to adjust to being at a club of our size and scrutiny. Feel for him but that's football.

About half way through your post I was planning to reply with this. He seems like the kind of character who wouldn't really respond to a manager going through him, he's probably more of an arm round the shoulder type.

Playing for a club like Celtic where you are expected to win every single week is a hard school. I don't think it's an environment that is ever going to suit Mackay-Steven.
