Fair one, he was a hark back to the old style jinking wingers whereas GMS has all the flicks and stepovers.

Just hope GMS doesn't go the same way as Patrick!

Think we can already see that Gary has a better level of stamina than Paddy. That was one of his main weaknesses.

I was glad we signed GMS from the start but was more pleased with Armstrong, I think he will prove to be the brains of the team in coming years. GMS will also improve with good coaching.

Edit: OK, but it's true whether you agree or not.

The original post was out of order. I don't have the right to take out my anger on other members. That's what Efe's for.

    Exactly

I think it's cus Ronnie wants him to play as an 'inside forward'; cut in and make a nuisance of himself and score goals. He's still getting used to playing in a much different environment etc, i think we will see him express himself freely soon enough with consistency, especially once he gets up to Ronnie levels of fitness/conditioning etc.

    This too.
Good points; he is certainly a brilliant footballer and is just obviously still finding his feet, etc. He will be an absolute beast for us I think. :50:

I've yet to see him do anything under pressure, mate. It's all very well doing fancy tricks for Dundee Utd or in training but at Celtic you don't get as much time on the ball and he struggles. When he has the AC Milan defence doubling up on him, I'll compare him with McGeady.

I doubt he's on a leash. Ronny has always said he wants players to express themselves. He's just playing badly.

He looks very inconsistent, much like most average wingers in world football. Came in last season and started brilliantly, then faded towards the end of the season. He was on fire in pre-season, got injured before Stjarnan and has been rubbish in his appearances since.

I think a lot of it has got to do with confidence too. He looks shot. Barely takes anyone on anymore, and when he decides to - he's failing. Once he gets over this rough patch I'm sure he'll be decent again. He will never be great, but he can score goals, entertain and he works tirelessly. Sadly his end product is meh, and his passing might just be his weakest asset. He gives the ball away for fun at times, usually by under hitting it.

You get more time in pre-season friendlies. It's easier for guys like GMS to flatter to deceive. Other than that I agree with everything you say.

I don't think its Ronny, more himself. For some reason he's not attempting to do anything different.

    Perhaps I worded that wrongly.

I'm not suggesting that Deila has told him to not try anything fancy at all, however he has maybe said to try and focus on other aspects of his game more in recent times. Becoming more of a 'wide attacking midfielder' than a natural winger, which he is.

I want him to just start doing the basics again. Take the man on and commit defenders. He seems a bit lost at the moment in terms of what he wants to do.

"Should I take him on", "Should I pass", "Should I cut inside" etc etc. Very indecisive.

Interesting considering he was fantastic against their city rivals not so long ago...
