We would be absolutely laughing if he ended up like McGeady.

That luxury player with very little end product earned us close to 10 million quid.

Don't rate GMS anywhere near as much as most others. From what i've seen he is a boy who likes doing step overs in the centre circle before being robbed and falling over. Ocassionally he scores or assists.
Now granted, the only full games of his i've seen have been those against us, but he's not performed in any of them except playing decent in the cup semi which shows he can't handle/step up for the big occasion and therefore doesn't impress me at all.

Russell, on the other hand, is growing on me, but I still wouldn't put him anywhere near Stokes, let alone Hooper.

Aye, whatever mate. McGeady consistently hit double figures for us in assists, so if you feel he didn't produce the goods for us, then you didn't really see him much. GMS is capable of adding a lot to our side. Not to the extent of McGeady, I don't see the comparisons, but to a satisfying degree.

I want us to buy them and give Dundee United a healthy fee instead of the robbery from English teams signing Scottish players for nothing, I'd give them about 5 or 6 million for them both, means united can clear their debt and they have a good bit to spend on facilities and rebuilding their squad

haha who's to say we wouldn't make a profit on them in a few years, I certainly think we would get more than 3 million for each player a few years down the line

    This is madness.

Why would any right-minded Celtic supporter want the club to spend 5 or 6 million on these two players in order to help out another team? I know Celtic was started as a charity but this is taking the *.

Would you guys say Russell and Mackay Steven are signs that youth development in Scotland is improving?

I disagree with you there mate. McCourt makes a good point . This would actually improve scottish football due to the amount of profits Dundee Utd could make by selling these players. Therefore buying better players therefore result in more competition.

Roughly what I was trying to get across but don't think I did it very well, we could increase the quality of Scottish football and as a business side of things it would pay off down the line if they improve and we could then sell them off for a profit, never mind that 5 or 6 million figure I suggested would be out of the vast amount of money we're bound to get from Wanyama and Hooper

But it still is a fair point you make . It would add more competition among other clubs through young talent sold at big price.

It's a ridiculous way of thinking.

Celtic should not act as a charity for Scottish football. And paying extortionate prices to SPL clubs simply because their chairmen and owners can't run their own club properly is unbelievably stupid and short-sighted.

Imagine Lawwell explaining that one to the shareholders and season ticket holders! :smiley-laughing002:

The Cup Semi Final was Dundee Utd's biggest domestic game this season, and Mackay-Steven was arguably the best player on the park. He was certainly Dundee Utd's best that day. So to then say he can't do it in a big game was completely contradicting your statement, since that was there biggets game all season, except Europe.

Mackay-Stevens is the most exciting player in the Dundee United team. He's pacy and you never know if he's gonna go inside or outside, added to that he has "end product". He scores and creates chances. Out of the two, he'd be the priority for me, simply because he offers something completely unpredictable. I think he'd have a field day playing in the hoops.

In saying that, we have Sammy and Stokes already, who are quite similar players, so it becomes an issue as to how you would fit all these guys into the team.

Johnny Russell would just score a lot of goals, but if i were Johnny Russell, i'd fancy a shot at the Italian league. He's already broken his leg and you just don't know how this might affect his long term fitness. Me personally, i think he'd do really well, but i'd maybe prefer a guy with a clean bill of health. United will probably try and hold out for 1.5 - 2million for him.

As a pairing, they have a good understanding of each others game and if we signed them both we'd do well.

That said, if Hooper did decide to stay, their would be no need to sign Russell, who is quite similar to Hooper, but with more of a physical presence and possibly less gifted technically. The price for Mackay-Steven could be massively inflated when teams in England show interest.

So it really depends on what bids come in for our players. I see the priority being a target man, a playmaker with an excellent work ethic, two center halfs that are versatile and a holding player in the mold of Wanyama, if he goes in the Summer.

If we manage to keep the team together, we only need a few players, and Johnny Russell and Mackay Stevens would do a good job and possibly become fans favorites. I'm surprised we didn't look to do deals for them in January, when their was less competition for their services and now it might prove difficult to outbid other clubs.
