Are some members on here suggesting we should sign Johnny Russell and on the other hand sell Anthony Stokes?

A front three off stokes, russel and hooper would be excellent for SPL games

risky game but i'd wait on these two and pick them up next season. GMS on a Bosman and Russell at a price.

Part of me feel would feel quite guilty if we signed both of them from United. We're always talking about how we need a more competitive league now that Oldclub are no longer in existence, yet we want to effectively go out and sign the two most talented non-Celtic players in the league and strip Dundee United of two of their most prized assets in the process.

We could easily find young players similar to them abroad or even down in the lower leagues in England at the same price, which would mean that United would also be able to continue fighting for silverware and prove that we really don't need Oldclub or Sevco in any form at all in Scottish football.

If you look at some of the teams in the SPL right now, they aren't as bad as they are made out to be. None of them can match the strength and size of Celtic's squad, obviously, but the likes of Dundee United, Killie, Hearts, Aberdeen and Motherwell do have some talented players amongst their ranks and this season could actually be tougher than a lot of us think, even on a domestic level. Aberdeen proved yesterday that they can match us for most of the game when they set up the right way and the players stay 100% focused on the job at hand.

gms against dinamo was brilliant, i know its one game but with the right backing he could be another james forrest and aiden mcgeady.

i like johnny russell also i think he would be a great addition to our team, it may not be a world class team having spl players. but i can remember last time we won a major competition our players were all scottish :50:

I was thinking the same until I realised if we don't sign them it's inevitable they'll end up in England if they continue to impress anyway.

I don't think we would be willing to pay what their true valuation is. I'd say Dundee United would want 2m+ for Russell and 2.5-3m+ for Mackay-Steven. I watched Dundee United twice this week and both times I've thought they were excellent. I'm hoping they can push Celtic really far this season so we get some competition.

Both are excellent players, but I have a rotten feeling we have left it too late to sign either of them. Same as the Jordan Rhodes scenario, we express interest but then we * about :47:

Good points but they will only run their contracts down and get a move to England anyway. Better for our game in the end if we take them and hopefully United get some money but even if they don't at least we're keeping our talented players in Scotland.

If we could offload Commons (who is so rarely on form) for a couple of million I would be willing for us to pay 2.5 million for a brilliant young player like GMS.

Rarely on form? Last season aye he was pish and injured. But came onto a game later in the season and he's been a stand-out in the last 2 games.
    Top player.

Jonny Russell and Gary Mackay Steven.

As we know we have been linked with these two players quite heavily in the past and with window shutting end of August no doubt we will be linked again.

Would you really want them in our team?

As much as I like them and the fact they would play a big part in the team,I have no doubt about that,I would gladly we stayed clear of them for the good of Scottish football.

Unless they where going to leave United for England then we have no reason to go for them as it would only weaken the league more and would surely drive more people away from the game aswell.

That is what makes me sick about Sevco getting hearts best players and killies best player,I'm sure you'd see better attendances if the players in question where still at there old clubs.

In my opinion theres plenty more players out there just as good without weakening the next best clubs in our league.

    What's your thoughts guys?
