It’s mad thinking about how he left here in his prime as a massive success to potter about the English Championship during his best years. He must regret that so much.

He was brilliant while he was here.

I think the club wanted to sell him, and he financially probably did OK out of it.

Don’t think we had the pull we have now for “bigger” clubs to go in for him back then whereas now teams might not see our players as much as a risk. Always thought at his peak here he would have done amazing going on to arsenal. Norwich was such the wrong move but I’m guessing he thought that was his only option

Happy to see him do well at Omonoia. Always liked Hooper. fantastic player and seemed to be a humble guy.

35 now...looking at the thread from a few weeks back comparing our strikers, if he had stayed here longer, he's record for us would be ridiculous, possibly even record setting for our modern day strikers (minus Larsson).

Ach well, but it really goes to show just how quickly the game changes that if we were looking to sign the Championship top scorer who played for a team either facing or actually getting relegated, he'd be out of our price range by some distance now.

I think the decision to go to Norwich will by a mile be the biggest regret of his career whether he admits it or not. A great player who went on to have a * poor career off the back of 1 poor choice granted he'll be drying his tears with fifty quid notes

Think he saw moving to the EPL as his best chance of an England cap, that would've played its part in his decision.

Gets it , as did others , down south its nothing up here , then you play for us and your mentality has done a 360 , the biggest club in the world , not financially , not fabricated , but decorated.

    Hail hail

I would have him on the bench at 35 no problem.

Makes me feel old when guys like him and Joe Ledley are now playing masters football.
Hooper was another who thought the grass was greener elsewhere but never got near the highs he achieved here.

But harsh in hooper to assume he thought the grass was greener.

I'm sure it was common knowledge (did he not admit to it?) That he moved purely for the chance of an England call up.
His choice of club was a bad one, they had Ricky wolfswinkel as well I'm sure at the time, for a defensive club, battling relegation, they were only ever to be playing one up top.
Even then, a relegation club striker is never expected to get double figures either, so hooper was destined to struggle with that club for his reasoning to leave us.

Shame of course, but I'm not holding grudges that he wanted to make a chance at the England setup.

Watched the masters last night, aside from the utter shambles of the pitch (typical half arsed rank * Scottish effort) Hooper could still do a job as a reserve striker.

We are going to lose Kyogo, Maeda, Oh, Yang and Hatate in January to the Asian cup and we need an option for the minimum 3 games they will miss.

I would bring him in on a 1 year contract and get a full preseason programme into him by November.

We really need a temporary option for January. He would jump at the chance and wouldn’t upset the apple cart knowing exactly what he was here to do. If he showed up well in January it would allow our regular guys a chance to recuperate into early February before getting back into the team.

Choice of club was the problem. Bottom dwellers tend not to play so well in front of goal and that just set him back and went down hill.
Back then he could have got an Everton level

Give him a contract, lol, he's done ffs, his finishing was amazing but he would struggle to do a job in the Scottish lower leagues, never mind SPL. They all looked like ex pros.
