I never made the judgement that we should sign English players because Thompson played well for us.

You made the Judgement we should not sign an Englishman,based on your hatred for the English.

You dont know if Hooper is a quality player or not,you did not know what team or what league he came from,but still you were quick to call him Lennons first dud.



If we signed an unheard of Asian player you would be all over it.

 

A lot of people here were quick to call him a star for us, and push him into the first 11.

No, it's combined. I think he'll do bad, and I'm not liking the fact that we're looking in England for players, especially not in lower tiers. And SuperNick, as long as you don't think the English NT are any good, the Scottish half saves you.

Where do you suggest looking then mate that we would find a player of Hooper's calibre and for a price tag within our price range? most top leagues players are well out of our reach like:S I think Championship players can be abit bit of decent business for us. Everyone has to start somewhere.

 

Around where my homeland is, Korea, Japan, Russia, South American countries like Chile and Paraguay... And Championship isn't much of a callibre. Yes, everyone has to start somewhere, but that doesn't mean they should get a straight ticket to here after being in several diddy clubs.

 

players from outside the EU need work permits(i think) but and to get it they would already be established so there cost would be higher.trying to get young players from these countries would be a nightmare for us

 

I'd rather spend money on those people, even if it meant 6M, than 2.4 on Hooper.

 

I do think we need to look alot more at South America but the Russian league has become quite rich in the last few yers so it would be difficult for us to tempt players from there. But Juarez is a step in the right direction and shows we are leaving no stone unturned. The Championship is not the best league in the world I know but it cant be denied there are some quite gifted players playing in that league. Scott McDonald, Jiri Jarosik, Alan Thompson and Neil Lennon are all examples of players who played for so called "diddy clubs" south of the border and even up here but went on to do good jobs for us. I wouldnt rule out Hooper just yet mate

 

I thought he was our best player by a distance tonight and obviously got his goal what sort of impact do you see him making this season?

 

I can see him being the key to winning the title, people say juarez or Ledley will be key, but whats the point on having an attacking midfielder if you dont have a striker to score tthe goals

 

Pretty sure he will score 20-30 goals this season barring injury.

 

If he can score that amount of goals over two seasons in the Championship in a team like Scunthorpe, he'll have no problem scoring goals. We lacked that killer instinct last season up until Keane came in. Saying that, we never controlled games last year in the middle of the park, so Juarez and Ledley will definitely be key this season.

 

Really rate him as a player. However, strikers always seem to start of doing really well for us and slowly get worse and their contribution start to dim. Examples- Henri Camara, Venegoor, Zurawski. Hope it doesnt happen though because the guy does seem to want to get involved in everything. 2 goals in 2 games against tough opposition- could possibly tear the spl apart, lets hope.

Hooper was on top form tonight, can see him scorin more goals than Laugherty in the spl this season
