It's one of Fosters weaknesses. Getting down low or coming for high balls. Other than the first goal he hasn't been that bad.

Fraser Forster has opened up on the 'easy' Celtic-decision he made after returning to first-team football for Southampton.

The towering goalkeeper enjoyed a successful loan spell last season where the club won the Treble for the fourth successive season. But, when offered the opportunity to stay to fight for the 10 in a row this season - which they ultimately couldn't do - Forster refused.

Instead the Englishman remained at St Mary's in a bid to push first-choice Alex McCarthy.

Forster, 33, is still a big fan of the Hoops and admits he had a "fantastic" spell at Parkhead. “To go to Celtic and play 50 to 60 games in a season was fantastic for me," he said, speaking to Southampton's club website.

"It was easy for me to go back there because it was another club I have a fantastic relationship with, a fantastic relationship with the fans, so it was easy for me to go back. A lot of the staff were the same from when I was there the first time, so it was like I never left really.

“It was fantastic for me, it was a great year and I’ve have had some great games up there and it was great for me to go up there and play and remind people what I can do."

Forster has indeed ousted McCarthy this season between the sticks with 10 appearances under his belt. He believes he has justified his place as well as his decision not to head back to Glasgow.

“It is fantastic. I’ve obviously had to wait a while, but I am absolutely loving it," he added. "I obviously love the club a lot, and it is fantastic to be back playing and back at St Mary’s, and it will obviously better when the fans are back.

"There have been a lot of tough days along the road and there have been times where it has been hard to see light at the end of the tunnel, but you keep working hard and training hard, and hope that it comes together.

“I always tried to stay positive and work hard, and I am glad I am back here now and playing, it is something I wanted to do the whole time. I am glad I have got the opportunity now and I am trying to take it.

“It was tough at times when you are not making matchday squads, it was tough, but I always worked hard and believed in my ability and when the opportunity came up for me to go to Celtic and play, that was perfect for me really.

"To go back there and get some game time and to win trophies and do well in Europe, and then made the decision in the summer to come back here and fight for my place.

“I’ve obviously had to wait my time and the FA Cup has been crucial for that, but I’ve got my head down and worked hard to show what I can do.”

Better be a wind up. He didn't want to come back last season so why the * should we go back in for him this season.

If this is even remotely we true we must be properly desperate.

Putting pride aside I'd still probably take him back because Bain and Barkas are terrible goalkeepers and Forster is such a big game player for us (Lennon should thank him for all of our European campaigns).

Surely our scouting list extends further than Southampton's back up though? Forster is also absolutely useless with the ball at his feet so imagining him as our Neur or Ederson is stuff of nightmares.

    No thank you.

Rejected us last season, this needs to be a fresh start for the squad and club, going back again to old players won't overly benefit us.
Plus I have faith in Barkas.

FRASER FORSTER is wanted on loan again by Celtic.

The Southampton goalie was a hero for the Hoops during his last stint.
Now the new regime at Parkhead have opened talks with Saints about a shock return for Forster.

But this time Celts will have to pay more.

They ‘stole’ the keeper during his previous loan period, when they paid only a fraction of his salary.

The Premier League outfit now want around half of his £130,000-a-week, but are more likely to pay a third.

Owner Dermot Desmond is famed for paying top dollar for players he likes, and Forster would be a huge hit with the fans.

Seems like pure tabloid speculative nonsense.

But I'd welcome him back with open arms.

A good keeper is worth 15 points a season and can be the difference in Europe.

Would absolute take. But why can’t we just buy him? I know he’s on a wage we can’t afford but he can’t be getting offered anything else as English teams probably don’t rate him. I suppose he probably just wants to see out his contract and get the big bucks but you would think he would want to play too.

edit. Just seen he was on 130k :56: that’ll be why then. I thought he wasn’t even on half that.

Why would they want shift. Forster was no 1 in the second half of the season and they just sold Gunn.

    Please Ghod

Would be a massive boost, Barkas and Bain will never be reliable Celtic No.1s

We're not in a position to hold grudges, who could blame him for not wanting to come back and work with an incompetent clown manager like Lennon anyway

:giggle1: I would absolutely take him, although surely he wouldn't be an Ange signing as Forster doesn't have the attributes he likes in his goalies. Yet another reason why we need a director of football with a consistent and clear vision for the club, then appoint managers/coaches/players that fit with the model.

Also 130k a week for Forster is mental. English football is truly * up.
