I wouldn't get caught up on quoting the actual numbers because really we don't know what they are.

I think he's probably looking at a pretty massive cut and they're pressuring him to take it now if he wants a 3 year contract.

I've always said he probably wants a bit of security so that type of contract would be appealing. I think if he takes a cut now and comes up here, he could potentially be earning for 5+ years while also playing football and living somewhere he knows. In the longer run that could be more money than 3 years at Southampton and then retirement.

At that age it's as much about staying static as it is earning money.

All that being said, I'm not convinced he would fit into Ange's style. I think this is more for Ange to adapt though. I think he's really going to struggle to get the type of goalie he needs. It seems like a very small market. I wonder if he planned to get that Aussie goalie and now that he's missed that we're in a bit of trouble.

I know that if he doesn't get a goalie that can make big saves he won't succeed here, though.

Even if he was on JUST £30k a week it means that after tax he clears approx £890k a year and thats not counting bonuses.
The other quote of £70k would mean just under £2m a year after tax.

Aye I think it's quite easy to ignore all that and just say aw he's a million times better than barkas, wins you 10/15 points a season etc etc. All true, but the style of football we'll be playing is a massive issue for someone like Forster.

Am sure there's plenty of keepers out there who can be great shot stoppers but can also pass a football about. And for a lot less in wages than Forster. It's only because we know how good he is that folk are wanting him in. It's a no from me all things considered.

He’s good enough to adapt to. I honestly think he’s the best keeper that’s attainable for us.

I would take Forster back in a heartbeat.

Call me old fashioned but I like my goalkeepers to, you know, actually stop the ball going in the net. Crazy right?

I'd have no idea if that's true mate, I don't follow teams or players outside of Celtic. But there's no chance in * he's the only good option out there for us.

If he’s attainable it’s no even a question let’s be honest.

This whole debate about stats and all that * this has kicked off needs binned. Is Forster immeasurably better than Barkas and Bain? Yes he is, sign him…

    What's more important.

A keeper who's gonna be the difference in trophies, or one who can allegedly play out the back?

Celtic do not have the ability to sign any keeper who can play out, safely.

£5mill got us Barkas, so yes, I'd rather a keeper be a massive presence in goals and keep clean sheets and save us 15 even 20 points a season then have calamitous limp wrists * who can make a short pass to a cb

Madness. Take your revolutionary ideas elsewhere. You'll give Barkas a heart attack with those kind of notions.

All this talk of him being a great keeper or canny fit in to our system etc etc....it counts for absolutely * all at the end if the day. The big * doesn't want to be here, you * are embarrassing yourselves fawning after him, especially after the way he shafted us last season.

    Pathetic really.

Looks far more embarrassing you acting like he dumped you and your holding a grudge while secretly crying into your Forster action figure every night :giggle1:

If that's the drop they want him to take they are essentially giving him an the pay for this season over the next 2. I think he will force a loan, keep his pay and in a year get a signing. I'm surprised they don't want him. He is Southampton's best keeper.

I think he is attainable on a loan this season and possibly perm the next. I don't care if he can't play out from the back, watch him with us in 19/20 in Europe and against the hun. He was awesome, we can adapt around him. You know what your getting with Lurch and that's a match winner, most keepers don't offer that.

I'd rather have him in goals than any keeper we currently have.

But... would he hinder Ange's style of play? I think he would, and if he would, I'd rather we signed another keeper that is good and suits Ange's style of play.

The sign of a good manager is not being chained to one footballing style. It is the ability to adapt and improvise. Forster is a keeper so good that Postecoglou should ignore his inability to pass well.
