Yeah Fraser Forster looks the safer bet at this moment. I guess it all depends how highly you rate Craig Gordon. If you rate him as highly as I do then you're probably going to be willing to roll the dice, if you don't see much difference between Forster and Gordon then you're probably going to stick with Forster. Not that I am unhappy with Fraser Forster.

I suspect the decision will be taken out of our hands anyway. I think Sunderland will either offer him a new contract or another EPL team will make a move for him. That will put us out the running straight away.

I voted yes as I think he is more than good enough for us. But that said, I think his wages would be a lot and I wouldnt want to see us spend millions on him as he hasnt been THAT good. I also would rather see a few million spent on a centre half rather than a keeper.

But certaintly I think he has proven himself good enough for a deal, and I think he is still getting better.

his performances have been at best ok, he still kicks the ball directly out of play a lot and is no where near a boruc, and that is what we should aspire to have.

another suggestion would be kusczack from man utd, doesnt get a sniff anymore if he is still there

Think he has improved alot since last year think we should get him signed up on a permanent deal.

tbh i think Gordon will be lucky to get £10k a week as he arguably failed to prove himself in the EPL due to his injury record.

i can only see him coming back up here to us or them, if McGregor leaves, or a Championship club. i cannot see him staying in the EPL and for that reason, he'd be lucky to get above £10k imo. he is worth more but clubs will be scared to go near him because of the injuries.

i may be pushing my luck, i may need to lay off the weed but i think that we have the slightest of chances getting Forster and Gordon in next Summer.

Craig Gordon's next contract won't be for £10,000 a week, wherever it is. His stock hasn't fallen that much.

If he stays in the EPL - His wage will stay much the same.
If he goes to a Championship team - He'll still get £25-30,000 a week
If he signs for Celtic - He'll get £20,000 a week minimum.

mmmikey was right when he said that paying any player £20-25,000 a week is humungous for Celtic, it is, but a fit Craig Gordon would be worth every single penny.

Also mate, Forster and Gordon? I think you're being a touch ambitious there. No way would we get both of them. If we get one of them I'll be happy. I'd say it's more likely that we'll get neither of them and we'll be scrambling around looking for a goalkeeper again at the beginning of next season. That seems to be the way we do things. :87:

He's not above and beyond our class expectations, and when a keeper is, it's a big big bonus for the club because a class-above keeper's gonna grab you more points, probably, than any other kind of player outside of a Larsson type (which isn't even a type haha). So whilst I do want him to stay, i'd feel an awful lot happier if he was keeping the bench mad warm. Things as they are, he's an OK keeper.

He alarms me the way he doesn't stride out though, big lad like that he should be covering ground he sometimes takes these mad wee babysteps and gives me fits.

Yeah. Is Brown our top earner? If he is, I'd see Brown go if it meant we could land Gordon. It's all hypothetical but I'd agree with you I guess.

If we want foster we can have him, part of the loan deal was that end of season of we meet their valuation 1/2 million I can't remember they have to accept the offer, we would be mad not to buy him for that

a fit Gordon is very rare unfortunately. for that reason he'd be lucky to get half of his rumoured £40k a week wage imo. i can't see anyone in the EPL touching him with a barge pole.

of course i'm a touch ambitious. :icon_mrgreen: in all seriousness though, it wouldn't do any harm offering him a deal like the one i proposed. if he says 'no', fair enough. no skin off our nose.

if the £2m buy clause is true, i can't see us not buying Forster before the Summer window even opens.

we'd be lucky to get either of them.

To offer him 25,000 and become one of our tOp earners while more than likely sitting on the injury table, give me some of what your all smoking

Why do I want Craig Gordon? You mean apart from the fact that he's a quality goalkeeper??

really kusczack is * and prone to far more mistakes than forster. I agree we should be aspiring to a boruc but that isn't going to happen anymore a keeper of that quality will be snapped up by a big club where as forster has the potential to be every bit as good as boruc considering he is only in his early twenties

Aye, that's fair, but I think Celtic are going to have to take chances to land genuine quality, chances of one description or another. Unrpoven players, players with something specific to prove, whatever. This is a good example. It's one way for us to get a GK on the cusp of the world-class within our wage-structure.

Your're right to be concerned, but what is it costing to insure a wage, or partially insure it these days? And maybe some kind of deal could be worked out that is heavily weighted towards appearences, with a guarantee for first team football.

But it'll almost certainly never happen anyway. But i'd be for it.

    Spot on mate.

If Craig Gordon was fully fit and playing at the top of his form in the EPL we wouldn't have a cats chance in * of getting him to sign for us.

I understand people being apprehensive about his injuries but I'd be more than willing to take the gamble. Gordon ticks all the boxes for me. He's Scottish, he's at a good age for a goalkeeper, he's proved how good he is in the SPL and for Scotland. Injuries aside, there is nothing not to like about Craig Gordon.

There's no way I'd take Gordon over Forster. I'd rather spend that kind of wage on a player that we can trust to provide and that isn't Craig Gordon, his injury record is really worrying. Secondly, Forster has the potential to one day surpass Gordon's ability, he's improving every single game.

I really hope we sign Forster.

I'm going to disagree and say no for now but i may change my mind at the end of the season. He's playing well now so hopefully he can keep it up but let's not talk about clean sheets as that's as much down to the rest of the team.
