I think Zaluska would be fine in the SPL, but his problem would be similar to that of Samaras or Scott Brown. One mistake and he gets hounded. Over the course of a season I reckon he'd do ok, but I do think Forster is better. So if we can get Forster (or someone better) we should.

I remember at the start of the season that we are supposed to have a clause in the loan deal with Forster to sign him for around the £2m mark. Also remember Forster saying in January that he wanted to wait until the end of the season to discuss a deal as if he continued to play well then that would strenthen his position in the negotiation process. So that makes me think he has an interest in signing but also wants the best possible deal for himself. Lennon obviously rates him highly and was quoted as saying that he had been trying to get in touch with his agent but to no avail. The longer this drags on the less likely it'll look that Forster will sign. I want him to sign but if he doesn't want to play for us then there isn't a lot we can do.

I think this summers widow will be a little more conservative.
The money that is touted about in england the last few seasons isn't sustainable.
But i suppose it remains to be seen what happens.
Its been a slow start anyhow

Aye, let's hope that we see some financial fairness in the world - thanks to UEFA.

I hope he signs on for the next few years but I've got a feeling he is trying to get a better deal in EPL.

He wouldn't necessarily have to leave us to get a call up. We would just need to put a good run together in the CL, or a really good run in the EL, so that he gets noticed by the England coaching staff.

Easier said than done, of course, but it's not entirely out of the equation. A few more signings in key positions and we'll be ready, I reckon.

The question of whether Forster can get called up for England while playing for Celtic is, in some ways, an irrelevance. Even if Forster could win England caps while playing for Celtic, he will want to move down south sooner or later.

As I've said already, I'd rather sign Craig Gordon. If we get Craig Gordon now we will have him till the end of his career. Or until his ability drops to a level where we let him go.

I reckon we'd get 2-4 seasons out of Forster before he'd be looking to move on. I reckon we'd get 4-7 seasons out of Gordon before having to look for a new goalkeeper.

We could quite possibly get more games out of Forster in 4 seasons, than we would out of Gordon. I like Gordon and I don't doubt his ability but he's a massive gamble.

Give me a Forster on a four year contract any day.

i really dont think that a move down south would benefit him tbh. the level of keepers in the epl just now is higher than its ever been, so he could easily be spending a lot of his time on the bench if he went to the epl, going to the championship would just be foolish instead of signing for us.

the fact that hodgson called up someone with zero experience over forster says more about roys level of intelligence, or just the severe level of arrogance in the english game, than it does about forsters ability.

Always rated him as a world class keeper.

If Forest does go and we fail to secure Gordon, then I’ll be worried.

    I agree mate.

We're in a good position at the moment in that there are two very good goalkeepers who are available and possibly within our reach. If Forster decides to sign for another team, and Gordon isn't interested, then that will be when I'll start to worry too.

and yet Gordon would cost more in wages per game as he is likely to play 1 season worth of games in 7 seasons and being forced to retire costing us a small fortune while Forster who could stay at best 4 seasons would play nearly all those games and continue improve and maybe even get close to breaking his own record and even the sell on value would be decent.

while it may be nice to have a Gordon here for the prospect of a great number of years and retire in a Celtic GK top he would hardly play and we would only be looking for a new GK or even placing Zaluska as our No 1 while Gordon is perma injured

You don't know how many games Craig Gordon would play for us. Nobody does. It looks to me like you are jumping to the worst possible conclusion and passing it off as fact.

There are plenty of footballers who go through periods in their career where they have bad luck with injuries but get over it. There are also plenty of footballers who have injury problems at one club but don't when they move to another. Andy Webster being just one example of that. Webster could never stay fit at Rangers yet when he went on loan to Dundee Utd he hardly missed a game because they changed his training routine. The same thing could quite easily happen to Craig Gordon.

If you want to believe the worst then that's your prerogative. I think it would be well worth taking the risk on Craig Gordon because he's an outstanding goalkeeper.

thing is though mate for every Webster there is a Keiron Dyer or even a Dean Ashton and since he has played in the EPL for so long he will be accustomed to certain style of living and while it may not be hard to reclaim No1 spot for Scotland by playing in the SPL i feel he is not worth the risk in wages and has played something like 4 games more the Forster for us during his two loan spells for us.

I understand your, and others, apprehension about Craig Gordon's injury record. I honestly do. I can't sit here and give any guarantees that Craig Gordon wouldn't continue to be injury prone at Celtic but, at the same time, I don't think it's ridiculous to think that signing for Celtic could be a fresh start for him and that the move could work out.

The reason I would be willing to take the gamble on Craig Gordon is that I rate him particularly highly. I think he's an excellent goalkeeper. Really top class when he's on his game. I also like the fact that he is Scottish and he would probably be signing for us for the long haul if he came. I just think that getting him on a free transfer is such a golden opportunity, I would like us not to pass it up.

I like big Forster but if we signed Craig Gordon I'd be genuinely excited.

    Absolutely.

I've wanted Gordon at Celtic for years now. We seem to have an incredible medical team, so I think he'd be in safe hands.

If Forster doesn't give us an answer soon, then we should go for Craig before someone else does!
