The goalkeeping coach would have had a big say in what goalkeepers got picked I would imagine. This is the same goalkeeping coach who is at Norwich, where Ruddy plays.

Pressured more to a point, Hodgson didn't want to pick Forster because of the league he plays in and had Norwich not been relegated Forster would never have been aboard a plane to Rio with the England team.

Assistants can't force a manager to do anything FFS.

Maybe Hodgson was going to pick ruddy and they suggested he took a look at forster but I doubt they forced him. :56:

Did Ben Foster not "retire"/refuse to play under a previous manager???

Herman is by some distance a better keeper than Foster and for that reason alone should be at least No 2.

You do realise that the assistants all work for Hodgson, right? He chose them to assist him.

Why would he choose people to work for him who are going to pressure him into doing something he doesn't want to do?

They're also there to give their opinions and obviously their opinions were that Forster should be on the plane ahead of Ruddy or Butland.

Yeah, but the decision rests with the manager. He wasn't "pressured" or "forced" into anything.

Hmm, let me have a think on that one. Who does Forster play for again that might interest me...

Oh * yeah Celtic. It's in our best interests to see him do well and get given chances.

If I was the manager of Scotland, and knew of only the Scottish league, I'd be * to know that I could be playing Robert Snodgrass. Snodgrass wouldnt get a * look in. Thankfully I would have assistants that know a broad range of leagues and players and would be able to advise me on him.
Thus I would choose Snodgrass in my squad for a game.
I'd still be a bit reluctant to use him agead of players like brown or commons, players I see and know a lot about.

That's the situation that hodgson is in. He knows * all about forster, but thankfully he has assistants to advise him on the matter. Hart will always have been the number one, and minus a catastrophic * up from hart, forster wouldnt get a look in.
Hodgson now has a final game to play, a game he needs to salvage some dignity from, and he is again in a position where he needs to be astute. Rightly he is changing it, but it's not a time that he should be going with complete unknowns, specially against Costa Rica who are proving to be a great team this year.

So yeah, can't blame Roy for going with what he knows. Maybe if things had went different you would have seen Fraser. Say had they actually qualified at this stage.
But they haven't. So on he goes.

What will come from this is that Fraser will have worked with the team for a prolonged period, he will be presenting himself as a strong Keeper to chose from, and I will be very surprised if he doesnt start a game for England before the end of the calender year.

"Hodgson knows * all aout Forster"? :97:

Yeah, he picked a total unknown over an established EPL keeper in the squad......

Thing you're massively exaggerating to say he doesnt know anything about him and that he's a "complete unknown" :smiley-laughing002:

He's had 2 caps from him and been in the squad about half a dozen times. He's probably seen him playing plenty of times.

Right, Christ guys, try not to jump down the throat too quickly. I clearly was meaning in the scheme of the keepers he has to choose from. He clearly will know (think back a year) a lot more about ruddy, foster, etc. Thankfully due to his assistants he knows more now. Enough to take him to the world cup, rightly so. But he will still have more faith and knowledge of foster over forster.
We all here agree big Fraser should be starting, but can we blame Roy for being cautious in this final match?

Fraser will have done more than enough the past few weeks to claim a start for englang and push for the number one jersey.

when he was first shown Fraser, yes he will have known little to nothing. now he will know more, but in a crucial game can we blame him for changing it to something/someone he knows more about and has more faith in?

Mate, I read to the bit where you said that "he knows * all about Forster". That was enough for me. That is ridiculous.
