I think he is our no1 striker atm. Brilliant in the air, shootings deadly and good dribbler. So far he's doing fine !

Marc was as close as BTM got to a 'marquee' signing when he came in,it was a bit drawn out for that signature. Mogga's hardly going to bring in new strikers 6 months later and say Fortune was always planned as a bench player. And of course he had to put that to the player and, probably more importantly, the meeja.

Consider had he not come out and said something along these lines... Fortune was Mowbray's marquee signing in the summer, who we were pre warned wouldn't be all that prolific, and that there is no guarantee that, Ras aside, any of the others will be there next season. Mowbray has been, somewhat, personally under seige so it would seem logical that he would place his trust in a player who he personally rates so highly.

Additionally, If he didn't, its concievable that Fortune would take the snub personally & allow it to effect his performances negatively. We then have a striker, who has scored a number of cracking goals, (but over the course of his career hasn't produced the goods as much as might have been expected of a striker), fast approaching 30 and sitting on the subs bench and a plummetting resale value.

Moreover, technically what's been said by Mowbray is true, Marc Fortune is OUR main striker, the loan players are not OURS,and for all round play he's ahead of RaRa.Academic then-very good player, goals in him (and spectacular goals),and the guy is a superb athlete. He'll do!!

i think its clever man management, sayin that your no.1 striker is a player whose on loan no matter how good would be a bit degrading if you were fortune and it would give him no assurance

I think he will become a very good player for us but i think next season we will see the best of him. It takes time to settle in a new country. I wouldn't say hed be our no1 striker tho. I really hope we keep Keane tho. If we do then either Sammy or MAF would have to go (considering we keep Kamara, which we should)

I'll never understand how fortune can win every high ball punted up to him and not be able to latch onto crosses a la Big Jan.

He's a decent player but I think Sammy is better in the second striker role. I'd even consider at times where we are outplaying teams and they have parked the bus that we play with 2 poachers: Ras and Keane.

Thought the big man was outstanding yesterday ! Head and shoulders above everyone . Looks like he has really got his confidence up. Brings so much to the team with his strength and hold up play. Forming a good partnership with Keano.

He never actually came out with the intention of making a big, bold statement. Some idiot said something along the lines of 'you've signed plenty of strikers I take it that's Fortune 3rd or 4th on the list now' and he came away with the retort 'no in my mind he is the number 1'.

If the journalist wasn't trying to wind him up for a reaction there would have been no issue.
