let's put this in perspective here. mogga was asked by the press, "with the addition of the new lot of strikers brought in recently, has fortune moved to the back of the queue?" now if he would have answered yes, we would have buried him for such a waste of 4 mil quid, now all of a sudden sitting and rotting away. i think essentially he had to lay down a statement of support for fortune because he sees him as a big part of future plans. that doesn't mean he's going to start him over keano or razza. he was asked a loaded question and tried to deal with it as diplomatically as possible. and you wonder why he looks like an axe murderer at his conferences?

he didn't say he's the best striker on the team right now. he said he'd judge the players based on the needs of each game. bbc twisted his words completely around and made it sound like he said fortune was going to be the first line striker every game. let's settle down, he didn't say that. watch the video and listen to what he said

Just read it on bbc and your right combene , mowbray cant say anything without the media twisting it about :

Mowbray: "Its a nice day today isnt it "

headline tomorrow: "Mowbray likes days when rangers are 10 points clear!!!"

Fortune has been great last 4-6weeks, especially with his back to goal and his movement and strength around the channels and 18yard lines. BUT i want players who can stick it in the net. if we play 3 up top i wouldn't complain if he was one of the 3. Rasmussen must play as hes a poacher.

TBH, I'd not have been surprised had Mogga come out and say that Fortune is his main man before this, never mind the way it has been conveyed by the 'meeja' on this occasion. Fortune was his man, his number one target in the summer, the marquee signing and better part of £4m was spent to acquire the services of a striker we were forewarned would not be a prolific scorer.

Now, we can all see that we are top heavy atm, which means players are going to miss out, and given that Keane is here as the 'star' man, then it becomes 4 battling for 1 spot. 4 into 1 just won't go and so a player like Fortune may end up with less time on the pitch than he may've thought just a few weeks ago. Given that a number of these are players on loan, it wouldn't have surprised me if he was thinking not of the immediate future, but rather past the summer.

If, on the other hand, Mowbray said nothing complimentary about Fortune, or gave some sort of public assurance as to his long term plans, (regardless of whether he thinks, privately, that he is in them or not), then we have the situation where we have a striker closing in on 30, who in his entire professional career, a sizeable chunk of which was spent in the French 2nd Div, scored only a handful more goals than Skippy scored in 2 1/2 seasons with Celtic, rotting on the bench, and a resale value dropping like a stone.

No, Mowbray had to say something positive.

Tony Mowbray claims that Fortune is his number one striker, I cant agree.

Recently TM stated that Fortune was still his number one striker after Robbie Keane, Morten Rasmussen and Camara arrvied, I really thought this to be a very strange statement from the manager, why did he make such a statement?

Fortune has improved recently, however I still don't rate him ahead of either Keane or Rasmussen as finisher, so why did TM make his statement, was it his way of saying he didn't pick either Keane or Rasmussen to come to Celtic ?

I think he has improved and benefitted playing in the same team as Robbie Keane, if you compare his performances alongside either Samaras or Mac Donald I think most folk would agree that the presence of Keane has helped him, be it that they link better, or that defences are now more pre-occupied watching Robbie Keane.

    Your thoughts please.

I believe he made the statement coz he shelled out 4 million for him and to give the player a bit of a confidence boost, he has improved but imo he is behind rassmussen, keane, and kamara for a game up front

Kamara is looking like a cracking signing for us

He,s started playing well and i am pretty chuffed, the hunns were all shouting 2 month back that he was our sebo, and i was asking my self why the gaffer paid the big price but he is improving every game, and by having quality like keane beside him is helping, but he also knows there are 2 or 3 strikers that can just come in and get his starting slot so he,s upped it, A hope he knows how to shut up but after his paper talk a fort night ago:50:

He hit another scorcher in the first half but the keeper saved but again showed his reluctance to leather the ball home from a few yards out when trying to tickle it into the net..

Mowbray claims the fee for MAF was less than £3 million..

man of the match today i reckon, his touch and movement are class. apparently he cant score goals yet his goals to games ratio is better than kenny miller who is meant to be 'deadly' this season! mowbray knows that keane is first choice but he said that to give fortune a confidence boost i think and also since hes the big money signing.

I think he made that statement because he knows Robbie Keane will be heading south again at the end of the season and Fortune'e will still be there leading the line again next season. It was really just a way of letting Fortune'e know he was still Mowbray's main man and giving him a wee bit of a confidence boost.
